About the role and company
Virago Search is soon to partner with our client to search for a Finance Director - APAC, based in Perth. This role provides senior leadership across the Asia-Pacific region and is responsible for regional financial strategy, governance, capital allocation and performance management. The successful candidate will bring strong financial acumen and experience in complex, multi-jurisdictional environments.
The Finance Director will provide strategic and operational financial leadership, ensuring that business objectives are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of governance. The role will drive financial excellence, foster a high-performance culture, develop talent and contribute to the sustainable growth of the business.

Responsibilities:
- Lead financial management and reporting at the corporate and operational (project) levels, including robust controls, accurate statutory and management reporting, and clear analysis of project performance, margins and financial risks.
- Develop and execute the regional financial strategy, providing strategic leadership that aligns financial priorities, investment decisions and performance objectives with the organisation’s long-term growth plans.
- Provide hands-on financial business partnering, leading rigorous budgeting, forecasting and reporting processes while supporting operational leaders with timely analysis, constructive challenge and clear accountability for results.
- Provide actionable commercial insights by interpreting financial and operational data, identifying profit improvement opportunities, assessing trade-offs and enabling well-informed executive and project-level decision-making.
- Maintain strong corporate governance, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk management frameworks, ensuring effective internal controls, delegated authorities, audit readiness and consistent adherence across all jurisdictions.
- Direct capital allocation to optimise financial operations, prioritise investments based on risk-adjusted returns, strengthen working-capital discipline and maintain efficient, resilient capital structures that support sustainable growth.
- Develop and oversee cash-flow strategies, including accurate forecasting, liquidity planning, working-capital optimisation and treasury controls, to ensure the business can meet operational commitments and fund strategic priorities.
- Provide visible leadership and effective people management across geographically dispersed finance teams, setting clear expectations, strengthening accountability, building engagement and maintaining a high-performance, collaborative culture.
- Coach and mentor finance professionals at all levels, providing regular feedback, targeted development opportunities and career guidance while strengthening technical capability, commercial judgement and succession readiness.
- Lead effectively through organisational change and growth, guiding finance transformation, systems and process improvements, integration activities and capability uplift while maintaining business continuity and stakeholder confidence.
- Act as a trusted adviser, building credibility and influencing stakeholders locally and internationally through balanced commercial judgement, transparent communication and collaborative engagement with regional and global leadership.
- Lead commercial negotiations and strategic collaboration on contracts, investments, project reviews and key initiatives, protecting value while balancing client expectations, operational requirements, risk exposure and long-term relationships.
- Establish, monitor and communicate meaningful key performance indicators (KPIs) covering financial, operational and project outcomes, using explicit targets and regular reviews to drive accountability and corrective action.
- Integrate HSEQ performance and safety metrics into financial and operational decision-making, ensuring risks, trends and compliance obligations are monitored, reported and addressed through appropriate leadership action.
Requirements:
- Professional qualifications: CA or CPA qualification; GAICD or equivalent governance training is desirable.
- Relevant experience: At least 10 years’ senior finance experience, including leadership in EPCM, engineering consulting, energy, resources,
industrial services or major capital-project environments.
- Financial leadership: Proven accountability for corporate and project-level financial management, statutory and management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and performance analysis.
- Strategic capability: Experience developing regional financial strategy, supporting business growth and aligning financial priorities with corporate objectives.
- Commercial acumen: Ability to interpret financial and operational data, provide actionable commercial insights, improve profitability and support executive decision-making.
- Governance and risk: Strong knowledge of corporate governance, internal controls, regulatory compliance, audit, enterprise risk and delegated financial authorities across multiple jurisdictions.
- Capital and cash management: Demonstrated capability in capital allocation, working-capital optimisation, cash-flow forecasting, treasury oversight and maintaining efficient capital structures.
- Business partnering: A hands-on approach and a track record of partnering with operational leaders, project teams, senior executives and boards.
- Leadership and talent development: Experience leading geographically dispersed finance teams, establishing accountability, coaching and mentoring staff, and building succession capability.
- Change leadership: Evidence of leading finance transformation, systems or process improvement, organisational change and growth initiatives.
- Stakeholder influence: Ability to operate effectively in a matrix structure and influence local, regional and global stakeholders, including the Asia Pacific leadership team and Global CFO.
- Negotiation and collaboration: Strong commercial negotiation skills and experience collaborating on contracts, investment decisions, project reviews and strategic initiatives.
- Performance management: Ability to establish, monitor and communicate meaningful financial, operational and project KPIs.
- HSEQ awareness: Understanding of how health, safety, environment and quality performance affects financial outcomes, operational risk and business decisions.
- Communication: Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to present complex financial matters clearly to financial and non-financial audiences.
- Mobility: Capacity to undertake occasional travel within Australia and internationally.
