Description

Primary Purpose of Position

As a Graduate/Associate Investment Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality managed funds product research to financial advisers and subscribers working alongside experienced Investment Analysts and Senior Investment Analysts. Over time, you will gain exposure to a diverse range of asset classes, including Australian and Global Equities, Fixed Income, Property, Infrastructure, Alternatives, and Multi Asset portfolios.

This is a role for someone who thrives in a collaborative and supportive environment while having the opportunity to take ownership of their research and contribute to a wider team effort.

Key Accountabilities

- Analyse and conduct research on managed funds products within the relevant asset class as per the Annual Review Cycle, under the guidance and direction of Senior Investment Analysts and Sector Managers.
- Provide research support to the Managed Funds Research team.
- Undertake reviews of Investment Managers as assigned by the Sector Manager and in conjunction with other Analysts – collecting and synthesizing written information, assessing the merits of products and preparing research reports covering people and resources, investment style and objectives, research approach, portfolio construction and risk management.




- Prepare Fund Profile, Fund Viewpoint, Fund Review and other research reports for new and existing managed funds products, and other investment review and outlook reports across asset classes.
- Communicate with external clients to address specific queries and needs.
- Contribute to the broader Lonsec Research team – Provide content to the daily bulletin email and being involved in the broader business.
- Other duties as reasonably required

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree

Demonstrated Experience

- Recent university graduate, with previous experience or internship working with a research house, stockbroker, financial advice firm, fund manager or corporate highly regarded.
- Research skills (qualitative) – A strong ability to synthesize and distil financial information down to key concepts and convey this in written form efficiently, clearly and concisely. Strong attention to detail is essential.
- A demonstrable interest in finance and investment.
- Ability to work as part of a close-knit team, as well as autonomously whilst taking responsibility for meeting own objectives.

Skills and Specifications

- Strong organizational and time management skills – Meet deadlines and coordinate and juggle various tasks at a time (and reprioritise as new tasks come to hand).
- A strong and demonstrable understanding of investment markets and asset classes.
- Robust communication and relationship management skills to enable liaising with external clients with the ability to effectively handle queries and concerns.
- Positive attitude.
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets) and a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
