Commencing January 2027 | Perth CBD An Exceptional Leadership Opportunity St George’s Anglican Grammar School is seeking an inspiring, energetic and people-focused Head of Learning Area – Health and Physical Education to lead Health, Physical Education, Outdoor Education and school sport across Years 7–12.

Located in the heart of Perth across two CBD campuses, St George’s is a progressive vertical school and a proud member of AngliSchools. In 2027, the School will have approximately 700 students and four streams in each year group.

The Opportunity
As a key middle leader, the Head of Health and Physical Education will lead a highly collaborative and connected department team providing strategic and operational direction across:
- Health and Physical Education in Years 7–12
- General and ATAR Physical Education Studies
- Outdoor Education
- ACC and NWAS sporting programs
- Co-curricular sport and squad coaching.
Working closely with the Dean of Teaching and Learning, you will:
- lead the design and delivery of contemporary, inclusive and engaging curriculum programs
- promote high standards of teaching, assessment and student achievement
- oversee curriculum planning, review and continuous improvement
- develop and mentor staff, building a positive and high-performing team culture
- manage staffing, resources, equipment and the departmental budget
- coordinate a diverse co-curricular sporting program
- oversee coaches, external providers and sporting venues
- embed strong child-safety, risk-management and duty-of-care practices
- contribute actively to the wider life and Anglican ethos of the School.
Our central location enables students to access specialist facilities throughout the Perth CBD.
The successful applicant will bring the creativity and organisational expertise required to lead a dynamic HPE program within this distinctive urban setting.
About You
You are an exceptional HPE educator and capable leader who combines curriculum expertise with strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
You will demonstrate
- successful teaching experience across Years 7–12
- the capacity to teach ATAR Physical Education Studies
- contemporary knowledge of HPE curriculum, assessment and pedagogy
- the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
- a collaborative, purposeful and student-centred leadership style
- experience managing complex curriculum and co-curricular programs
- strong administrative, logistical and budget-management capabilities
- effective communication with students, colleagues, families, coaches and external partners
- a thorough understanding of student wellbeing, child safety, duty of care and risk management
- a commitment to participation, sporting excellence and lifelong physical activity.
Experience in Outdoor Education, representative school sport, squad coaching or the management of external providers would be highly regarded.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must:
- hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in Health and Physical Education
- be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia
- hold a current Working with Children Check
- hold current First Aid and CPR certification, or be willing to obtain these before commencing
- meet all compliance requirements for educators in Western Australia
- hold full Australian working rights
- support the Anglican ethos and values of the School.
Postgraduate qualifications, recognised leadership accreditation and additional qualifications in sport, coaching or Outdoor Education would be viewed as being advantageous. Why St George’s?
