ABOUT THE ROLE

Stanley College is seeking an experienced Head of Learner Success to lead academic integrity, academic support and intervention, learner success and continuous improvement across our Higher Education and VET portfolios.

This national leadership role is responsible for ensuring students showing emerging academic risk are identified early and supported through timely and proportionate intervention, while building the academic capabilities students need to succeed. The role will also use patterns in academic performance, academic integrity and support demand to identify opportunities to improve student success across the College.

Leading the Learner Success team, you will translate institutional learner success priorities into coordinated, evidence-informed support, intervention and engagement. You will also lead the online learning engagement function embedded within the team, ensuring students studying online or through blended delivery modes receive timely and proactive engagement and support.

The role reports to the Chief Academic Officer and works collaboratively with Schools, Course Progression, Academic Operations, Learning & Teaching Innovation (LTI), and Quality Assurance & Compliance (QA&C;).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Integrity: Case Management & Education

- Use academic and engagement indicators to identify students showing emerging academic risk and initiate timely intervention before issues result in failure or disrupted progression.
- Oversee academic integrity case management, ensuring cases identified through indicators or referral are addressed in a timely, proportionate and educative manner, while distinguishing this responsibility from formal misconduct investigation or decision-making, which remains with Schools or academic governance.
- Provide targeted support to develop the academic capabilities students need to succeed, including academic writing, study skills, assessment literacy, referencing, digital learning capability and other identified learning needs.
- Lead academic integrity education and developmental intervention, working proactively with Schools to prevent poor academic practice before it becomes a formal integrity concern.

Early Identification, Academic Support & Intervention

- Build students’ understanding of academic integrity and provide educative interventions where poor academic practice, inappropriate source use or emerging integrity concerns indicate a capability gap.
- Identify students at risk of unsuccessful academic outcomes and coordinate timely and appropriate academic support and intervention.
- Work with Schools and Course Progression to ensure students identified as at risk receive appropriate and timely support.
- Ensure academic skills and learning support services are accessible, consistent and responsive to student needs across all campuses and delivery modes.
- Lead the reasonable adjustment process for students requiring adjustments to learning, teaching or assessment, ensuring requests are assessed promptly, decisions are documented and adjustments are implemented in partnership with Schools.
- Monitor the consistency and effectiveness of reasonable adjustments across campuses and delivery modes, using patterns in adjustment demand to inform inclusive learning and assessment practices.

Student Transition & Academic Readiness

- Use patterns in student performance and support demand to identify systemic barriers to student success and academic readiness.
- Design and oversee transition and academic readiness initiatives for students entering or progressing through their course.
- Work with Academic Operations and Learning & Teaching Innovation (LTI) to improve the transition experience and learning environment.

Online Learning Engagement

- Lead the online learning engagement function embedded within the Academic Learning Support Adviser positions, ensuring students studying online or through blended delivery modes receive timely and proactive engagement and support.
- Establish and monitor engagement triggers, contact protocols and escalation pathways so that disengagement in online learning environments is identified and addressed early.

- Ensure online learning engagement practices are applied consistently across campuses and delivery modes and integrated with the team’s early identification, academic support and transition functions.
- Work with Academic Operations and LTI to ensure online engagement data and insights inform improvements to the online learning environment.

Student Transition & Academic Readiness

- Use patterns in academic performance, integrity cases and support demand to identify systemic barriers to student success and inform improvements across Schools, courses and teaching practices.
- Provide reliable learner success, retention, academic integrity and support demand information to support academic leadership, governance and planning.
- Act as an authoritative source of learner success and support-related analytics across the College, identifying and reporting systemic bottlenecks and emerging risk trends.

Team Leadership & Capability

- Lead, develop and manage the performance of the Learner Success team, including Academic Integrity Officer(s), Academic Learning Support Advisers and the Learner Success Administrator.
- Supervise the online learning engagement responsibilities of Academic Learning Support Advisers, including expectations for proactive contact, follow-up and caseload management, and build adviser capability in supporting students studying online and through blended modes.
- Build a proactive, student-centred and evidence-informed culture within the team, including offshore administrative support functions.
- Plan and deploy team capacity across campuses and delivery modes in response to enrolment and service demand, including establishing additional adviser and analytics capability as required.

Stakeholder Partnership & Governance

- Maintain clear and effective working relationships with Schools, Course Progression, Academic Operations, Learning & Teaching Innovation (LTI) and Quality Assurance & Compliance (QA&C;).
- Maintain clear accountability boundaries between learner success, academic decision-making, course progression and formal compliance. Schools retain responsibility for marking, grading, moderation and academic judgement; Course Progression owns formal progression status, progression plans, results, records, completion and award eligibility; and QA&C; owns regulatory compliance and independent quality assurance.
- Ensure academic interventions are coordinated with Schools and Course Progression and informed by reliable data, without assuming responsibility for admissions, enrolments, timetabling, fees, visas, general enquiries, graduation administration, counselling, health, crisis or welfare services, specialist accessibility/disability services, or general complaints, grievances and independent appeals.

Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement

- Identify, assess, manage and escalate material risks relating to student academic success, academic integrity and retention.
- Provide authoritative advice to academic governance forums on learner success, academic integrity and retention trends and risks.
- Attend academic governance committees and forums as a member, presenter or invited adviser as required, and prepare and present periodic reports on learner success, academic integrity, retention, online learning engagement and reasonable adjustment activity.
- Ensure governance reporting is accurate, timely and aligned with committee cycles and reporting calendars, with matters requiring governance attention or decision escalated through the appropriate forum.
- Maintain and continuously improve Learner Success policies, processes, tools and systems, including online learning engagement protocols.

Workplace Safety & Wellbeing

- Exercise due diligence as a senior leader to support a safe and healthy working and learning environment.
- Ensure hazards, incidents and psychosocial risks within the team are identified,

reported and addressed in accordance with College requirements.
- Model and reinforce compliance with workplace health, safety and wellbeing policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Relevant tertiary qualification in education, student services, psychology or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
- Substantial experience leading academic integrity, learning support, retention or learner success functions within a Higher Education and/or VET provider.
- Demonstrated experience designing and delivering academic skills, transition or early-intervention programs.
- Experience with online and blended learning engagement or student engagement analytics is highly desirable.
- Experience leading a geographically dispersed team, including offshore or outsourced administrative functions.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

- Strong knowledge of academic integrity practice, learning support, student retention and academic success principles.
- Sound understanding of the factors influencing student engagement and disengagement in online and blended learning environments.
- Advanced capability in interpreting academic performance, engagement and support data to identify risk and inform improvement.
- Proven ability to lead through others, set clear expectations and build a proactive, student-centred team culture.
- Highly developed judgement, communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

- Demonstrates strong professional judgement and a high level of accountability for student success, academic integrity and service quality.
- Collaborative and consultative approach, with the ability to work effectively across academic and operational functions.
- Highly organised and proactive, with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple campuses and delivery modes.
- Evidence-informed and analytical, with the ability to translate student performance, engagement and support data into practical insights and actions.
- Proactive in identifying emerging risks, addressing barriers to student success and driving continuous improvement.
- Student-centred and committed to providing timely, accessible and appropriate support that enables students to succeed.
