Insurance Underwriting Operations Specialist
1. Role Overview & Portfolio Scope
Portfolio Demographics and Geographic Exposure The underlying insurance portfolio is highly international, with over 70% of the managed assets situated offshore relative to Australia. The client base is heavily concentrated within European and United States jurisdictions, with the insured risk exposures predominantly domiciled across European territories. The role requires daily engagement with cross-border insurance mechanisms, international operational hours, and global commercial practices.
2. Core Responsibilities
Policy Alignment and Risk-Profile Maintenance A direct conduit to established clients, systematically monitoring active policies to guarantee that coverage limits, tenors, and sizing metrics precisely mirror the fluctuating risk profiles of the insured assets. Ensure client expectations are reflected in policy wording, focusing strictly on the accurate administrative execution of requested policy alterations—such as capacity adjustments and maturity extensions—without engaging in primary risk appetite exploration or underwriting origination.
Premium Calculation and Financial Reconciliation
Verify, calculate, and correct premium pricing structures. This includes systematically auditing transactional records to rectify billing discrepancies, resolve payment processing errors, and establish seamless, accurate payment methods for all active clients.
Endorsement Administration and Policy Execution
Manage policy life-cycle variations by administering and executing formal endorsements. This process ensures that all mid-term policy alterations are accurately documented, legally executed, and aligned with agreed parameters to maintain administrative satisfaction for both the client and the insurer.
Client Data and Policy Record Management
Maintain rigorous, auditable records of client profiles, transaction flows,
and policy execution progress. This is achieved by ensuring complete administrative tracking of new business from origination to final execution within the dedicated preliminary policy workflow system (SIGMA WIP).
Pipeline Origination and Pipeline Tracking
Drive the business origination pipeline by monitoring prospective client streams, coordinating structured outreach, and managing the weekly sales meeting to track pipeline velocity and origination-to-execution metrics.
Workflow Design and Systems Integration
Apply insurance industry standards and operational workflow methodologies to advise on process design. Serving as the primary business liaison, this role is required to direct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and coordinate the technical integration between the SIGMA WIP preliminary workflow tool and the GRAILE portfolio administration system.
3. Qualifications and Experience
Skilled Experience Requirements To ensure operational efficacy across complex commercial transactions, the following professional background is valued:
- Insurance Sector Expertise: professional experience in insurance underwriting, intermediary, or portfolio administration roles is strongly preferred.
- Dual-Jurisdictional Exposure: experience operating within both the Australian and European insurance markets is ideal, providing the necessary operational understanding of differing regulatory environments and local placement practices.
- Ideal Academic Qualifications and Professional Credentials To manage the regulatory and structural complexities inherent in this cross-border book of business, preferred qualifications include:
- Specialized Qualifications: Bachelor degree-level studies in European insurance law, international contracting frameworks, and/or continental insurance practices.
- Risk Management Training: At least Bachelor degree-level studies risk management, international underwriting standards, and/or global exposure mitigation.
