About the Role An exciting opportunity is available for an Intellectual Property Specialist to join ASC’s Commercial team, supporting the delivery of the SSN-AUKUS program.
Reporting to the Intellectual Property Manager, you will play a key role in managing and protecting intellectual property as a commercial asset, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, internal policies and governance requirements.
Working closely with the wider Commercial team and program stakeholders, you will provide practical IP advice, support the management of supplier and stakeholder intellectual property, and contribute to the development of procedures and frameworks that underpin effective IP management across the program.
This role offers the opportunity to work within a complex and evolving Defence environment, contributing to a nationally significant program while helping strengthen IP governance, improve business processes and support the broader organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and ongoing management of ASC’s Intellectual Property Management Procedure, ensuring compliance across the business.
- Provide advice on intellectual property matters, including IP ownership, licensing rights, categorisation and contractual obligations.
- Review supplier contracts and program documentation to assess IP ownership and licensing arrangements and ensure compliance with relevant contractual frameworks.
- Assist in the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of SSN-AUKUS IP management procedures, guidelines and plans.
- Maintain accurate IP registers,
commercial data and supporting documentation.
- Support internal stakeholders with IP-related advice, information management and the application of IP management tools and processes.
- Promote awareness of IP management obligations and support ASC personnel in meeting their compliance responsibilities.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes and efficiencies across the Intellectual Property function.
- Work collaboratively with the wider Commercial team and program partners to support effective IP management and governance.
About You You will bring a strong understanding of intellectual property principles, particularly copyright, ownership and licensing, along with the ability to provide practical advice in a commercial environment.
You will ideally have
- A tertiary qualification in Law or a relevant discipline.
- At least two years’ experience in intellectual property management, protection or an IP advisory role.
- Sound knowledge of intellectual property law, including copyright, ownership and licensing.
- Experience maintaining IP registers and managing IP-related documentation.
- The ability to prepare clear, well-structured written advice, both with and without established precedents.
- Solid attention to detail, organisation and time management skills.
- The ability to work autonomously while building effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
