There are IT Manager roles where the job is largely vendors, budgets, meetings and escalations. This isn't one of those, sorry.

After more than 20 years under the same technology leader, a large, established Australian organisation is preparing for the next chapter of its technology function.

You'll inherit an experienced team of seven and take ownership of IT and Operational Technology across the entire group, supporting approximately 450–500 people across a complex industrial and operational environment.

It's broad. It's hands-on. And there's plenty to get your teeth into.

The role Reporting to the CFO, with a direct line of sight to the CEO, you'll have responsibility for the technology environment from day-to-day service delivery through to security, architecture and modernisation.

Your remit includes:

- Leadership and development of the internal IT team
- IT and Operational Technology across the group
- Cyber security improvement and incident response
- Infrastructure, networks and end-user computing
- ERP and core business applications
- SQL Server and Oracle databases
- Systems architecture and integrations
- Custom software development and automation
- Backup, disaster recovery and operational resilience
- IT budgets, licensing, procurement and suppliers

This is an environment where technology is connected to real-world operations. Reliability matters, change needs to be considered carefully, and when something breaks, it can affect considerably more than someone's Outlook. How technical? Technical enough that we don't want a pure people manager.

The environment includes Windows Server, virtualisation, SAN/storage, Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, SQL Server, Oracle, SYSPRO ERP, Oracle E-Business Suite, Mainpac, IBM AIX/Linux and bespoke business systems.

There's also custom development and integration work across .NET, C#, Python, C, Oracle PL/SQL and Oracle Forms.

Nobody expects you to be the strongest engineer in the room across every one of those technologies.

We do expect you to understand complex systems,

challenge technical decisions, guide your team, diagnose problems and comfortably get into the weeds when required.

Who we're looking for You've probably spent a good portion of your career technically hands-on before progressing into leadership.

You could currently be an:

IT Manager | Technology Manager | Systems Manager | Infrastructure & Applications Manager | Senior Technical Lead

More important than the title is your breadth.

You'll ideally bring strong experience across infrastructure, enterprise applications, databases, cyber security, systems integration and technical leadership.

Experience in manufacturing, industrial, agriculture, resources or another operationally complex environment would be particularly valuable.

The underlying requirement is unusually broad: leadership, security, SQL Server and Oracle, Active Directory and Entra, Windows infrastructure, systems architecture, integrations and software development all form part of the remit.

Why consider it? The outgoing technology leader isn't disappearing.

After more than two decades leading the function, they're moving into another role within the organisation.

That means you'll inherit deep institutional knowledge without inheriting someone else's chair indefinitely. You'll have support while learning the environment, then the prospect to determine what the next generation of the technology function should look like.

There's real scope to strengthen cyber security, modernise systems, improve architecture and integrations, develop the team and influence technology investment across the organisation.

And yes, it's in Bundaberg. $160,000 + Super

Permanent |Bundaberg, Queensland | 5 Days p/wkOn-site

This isn't remote, nor a fractional role, and it isn't Brisbane with an occasional trip north. If you're already in the region, fantastic.

If you're elsewhere and the opportunity is strong enough to make you consider a move, relocation is open to discussion.

If you're a genuinely technical IT leader who wants to own the function rather than simply manage around it, we'd like to hear from you.
