Cozens Johansen Lawyers is seeking a Junior Litigation Lawyer (1 to 3 years PAE) to join our dynamic team in Darwin, NT. As a Junior Lawyer, you will receive ongoing training and support to provide high-quality legal services to our diverse client base, with a focus on commercial litigation and employment litigation.
What you'll be doing
- Manage litigation files with appropriate supervision from commencement through to resolution.
- Interview people and assist in conducting investigations.
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, submissions and other court documents.
- Conduct legal research and prepare detailed advice on a range of litigation and dispute resolution matters.
- Attend client meetings and participate in the development of litigation strategy.
- Prepare matters for mediations, settlement conferences, hearings and trials.
- Liaise with clients, counsel, experts, courts and opposing representatives.
- Assist with advocacy and appear in court and tribunals where appropriate.
- Review and analyse evidence, disclosure and discovery material.
- Work as part of a collaborative team focused on delivering practical and commercially effective outcomes.
What we're looking for The successful candidate will:
- Hold an Australian practising certificate (or be eligible to obtain one)
- Have between 1 and 3 years post-admission experience
- Possess strong drafting and analytical skills
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail
- Have sound knowledge of civil procedure
- Be able to manage files with appropriate supervision
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Be commercially minded and client focused
- Be motivated to develop advocacy and courtroom experience
- Hold valid Australian work rights
