About the Role

UNSW IT is supporting the Business Optimisation Strategy (BOS) transformation program to overhaul Finance, People & Culture, and IT service delivery through new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Enterprise Service Management (ESM) platforms. This initiative involves migrating data across more than 80 impacted applications, decommissioning at least 16 legacy systems, and establishing compliant data archiving and retention processes.

The Lead Solution Architect - Data provides technical oversight for data migration, application impacts, and solution design across the BOS program. Dual-aligned to the Enterprise Data Office under Andrew and the IT stream, the role ensures data governance, retention compliance, and integration with the UNSW Enterprise Data Intelligence Platform.

Key responsibilities include overseeing data migration from legacy systems like PeopleSoft into the recent Oracle platforms, assessing application impacts, designing pragmatic data solutions, and guiding engineers and testers. The position defines data retention schedules, attachment storage rules, and integration architectures between new platforms and enterprise reporting, while collaborating closely with BOS Program Managers, Enterprise Architects, and the Enterprise Data Office to maintain architectural quality and governance across all data initiatives.

Responsibilities

- Lead the data solution outcomes for the BOS Program, partnering with senior stakeholders to translate complex requirements into endorsed target state architectures and transition roadmaps.
- Evaluate existing data platforms to identify necessary changes, recommending pragmatic and cost-effective implementations across cloud, SaaS, and on-premises environments.
- Produce high-quality architectural artefacts, including current and target state designs,

options assessments, decision records, and reusable design patterns.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects, cybersecurity, and delivery teams to ensure data solutions are cohesive, scalable, resilient, and aligned with UNSW enterprise direction.
- Define and deliver data archiving and records retention frameworks that comply with all legislative, regulatory, and university policy requirements.
- Drive architecture and security governance by assuring solution designs, managing risks, and presenting recommendations to boards such as the Architecture Review Board.

About You

- Proven track record as a Data Solution Architect leading ERP or similar large-scale transformation programs within complex enterprise environments.
- Deep experience architecting cloud, SaaS, and on-premises data solutions, with strong knowledge of Oracle Fusion ERP, Lakehouse architecture, and hybrid integration patterns.
- Expertise in embedding data governance, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance into architectural designs and organisational frameworks.
- Strong ability to establish data standards, modelling patterns, and reference architectures across metadata, quality, and trusted data sharing.
- Demonstrated capability to evaluate complex technical options, balance delivery risks and costs, and deliver pragmatic recommendations to executive stakeholders.
- Outstanding communication and negotiation skills to articulate complex concepts, influence senior leadership, and align competing business priorities.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience, supported by exceptional planning, problem-solving, and multi-stream prioritisation skills.
