About the Role

We’re looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join Automic and play a key role in supporting the business through its next phase of growth. Reporting closely to the Chief Risk Officer and partnering with the Executive Leadership Team, this role will provide pragmatic, solutions-focused legal support across a broad range of corporate and commercial matters.

While the role has a strong corporate focus, including supporting corporate transactions, governance initiatives, regulatory obligations and strategic business activities, it is also a true in-house generalist position that spans commercial contracting, employment law, dispute management, and broader legal advisory work.

Importantly, this is not a purely advisory role. We’re looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on and operationally involved, someone who can build and embed scalable legal processes, frameworks and procedures that support a fast-growing fintech environment. You’ll play a key role in strengthening governance standards, improving efficiencies, reducing reliance on external counsel, and helping shape how legal operates across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive legal professional who enjoys balancing commercial agility with strong legal and risk principles,

while working closely with senior stakeholders to influence business outcomes in a growing and evolving organisation.

Role Responsibilities:

- Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across business activities
- Support strategic initiatives while managing legal and regulatory risk
- Draft, review, and negotiate client, supplier, and partner agreements
- Support technology, services, and strategic commercial arrangements
- Identify, assess, and manage legal risks across products and operations
- Provide clear, risk-informed guidance to support decision-making
- Support Board and committee governance processes
- Prepare and review papers, resolutions, and governance documentation
- Maintain corporate policies and advise on regulatory obligations and best practice
- Support management of disputes, complaints, and potential litigation
- Engage and manage external legal providers where required
- Develop templates, playbooks, and guidance materials
- Streamline contracting workflows and improve self-service capability
- Provide advice on privacy, data governance, cyber, and emerging AI-related risks
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements across the business
