Lead with energy, earn trust and build a service team people want to be part of.
Grant Chugg Plumbing is one of Northern Tasmania's leading plumbing businesses, delivering maintenance, gas fitting, backflow prevention, TMV servicing, hot water systems and specialist plumbing services across residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
As the business grows, we are looking for an experienced plumbing leader who brings positive energy, practical judgement and genuine interest in people. This is a stable, long-term opportunity to lead an established division, improve performance and help create a workplace where high standards and solid team relationships go together.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Plumbing Operations Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the Maintenance and Specialist Trades Division. You will lead plumbers, gas fitters, technicians and apprentices while maintaining safe, efficient and consistently professional service.
The role blends people leadership, technical guidance, scheduling, estimating, customer relationships and commercial responsibility. You will be visible and approachable, comfortable holding constructive conversations, and prepared to take ownership when decisions or difficult issues need attention.
What you will be responsible for
- Lead the Maintenance and Specialist Trades Division with clear priorities, positive standards and personal accountability.
- Coach, mentor and provide technical support to plumbers, technicians and apprentices.
- Coordinate scheduling and resources to improve productivity, responsiveness and customer outcomes.
- Review quotations, estimates and service proposals and support sound commercial decisions.
- Conduct site inspections and guide practical solutions to complex technical issues.
- Monitor labour utilisation, job costing,
productivity, margin and divisional profitability.
- Build trusted relationships with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
- Identify service opportunities and support business development and sustainable growth.
- Resolve warranty, product and customer service issues promptly and professionally.
- Lead toolbox meetings, performance discussions, development planning and apprentice support.
- Maintain compliance with Australian Standards, plumbing requirements, WHS obligations and company procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation, job costing, KPIs and reporting through Simpro.
The person who will thrive here
You bring an upbeat, constructive presence and communicate with warmth and clarity. You can engage naturally with tradespeople, apprentices, clients and senior leaders, listen carefully and adjust your approach without losing sight of the outcome.
You are grounded, self-motivated and dependable. You prepare well, present professionally and follow through on what you say you will do. You enjoy contributing to team relationships, but you also understand that leadership means setting boundaries, addressing performance and accepting responsibility for results.
Your decisions reflect integrity, respect and service. You remain steady under pressure, communicate early when circumstances change and look for practical ways to help customers and colleagues succeed.
What you will bring
- Certificate IV in Plumbing with Gas Fitting endorsement.
- Previous experience leading a plumbing maintenance, service or specialist trades team.
- Strong technical knowledge of plumbing maintenance and specialist services.
- Experience preparing quotations, resolving service issues and managing customer relationships.
- Confident, articulate communication and the ability to build rapport across different audiences.
- A practical leadership style that sets expectations, develops people and addresses issues fairly.
- Strong organisation and time management across people, schedules, customers and commercial priorities.
- A record of taking ownership, keeping commitments and holding yourself and others accountable.
- Experience using Simpro or similar job management software.
- Commitment to safety, quality, respectful conduct and continuous improvement.
Desirable experience
- TMV and Backflow accreditation.
- Experience monitoring budgets, labour performance, margins and operational KPIs.
- Experience mentoring apprentices and supporting workforce succession.
What you can expect
- A leadership role with genuine influence over team culture and business performance.
- A company vehicle, phone and the technology needed to perform the role.
- Supportive leadership, ongoing development and scope to grow your career.
- The opportunity to build a capable team within a respected Tasmanian business.
