Company Description Castings Tasmania is the oldest operating foundry in the Southern Hemisphere, with origins dating back to 1834 and a long history of supporting Australian industry. Role Description The Maintenance Fitter is a full-time, in office role based at the Youngtown, TAS facility. This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and fitting mechanical plant and machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation across the foundry. Day-to-day tasks include conducting routine inspections, performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical issues, and carrying out corrective repairs on production equipment.
The Maintenance
Fitter will work closely with production and engineering teams to minimize downtime, support continuous improvement initiatives, and assist with installation and commissioning of new machinery and upgrades. The position also involves following safety procedures,
maintaining accurate maintenance records, and contributing to a culture of safe work practices and equipment care.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in plant maintenance and preventive maintenance, with experience in scheduled servicing and reliability-focused upkeep of industrial equipment.
- Demonstrated ability in maintenance and repair of mechanical systems, including fault finding, troubleshooting, and corrective action on machinery.
- Hands-on experience working with heavy machinery and mechanical components, with sound understanding of foundry or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in fitting, including assembly, alignment, installation, and replacement of parts and components to specification.
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III or IV in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, Fitting and Turning, or equivalent) and strong mechanical aptitude.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety, including safe work practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and risk assessment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and maintenance documentation, and to keep accurate maintenance records.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with production, engineering, and leadership teams.
- Previous experience in foundry, heavy industry, or manufacturing maintenance is highly regarded.
