About the opportunity
Our client is a large, well-known Australian organisation with a growing payments and financial services business operating under an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL). They are building out the governance, registers, attestation and reporting needed to run that licence well, and they need a hands-on Manager, Risk and Compliance to make it work day-to-day.
This is a new role, reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk and Compliance. It sits in the first line and supports oversight, coordination and constructive challenge across the control environment. Independent assurance remains with second-line risk and compliance and internal audit.
What you will do
- Support oversight of AFSL and AML/CTF obligations across the licensed entity and the business capability owners who deliver against them, including under an intercompany services model
- Build and maintain the registers that underpin oversight: obligations, controls, incidents, breaches, attestations and governance records, with clear accountable owners
- Run the periodic control attestation process, then review, challenge and validate the outcomes and the evidence behind them
- Prepare consolidated reporting on compliance, control effectiveness, incidents, breaches and emerging risks for leadership forums and governance committees
- Support the identification, escalation and tracking of incidents, breaches and remediation, ensuring material issues reach the right Responsible Managers and forums promptly
- Support the running of risk and compliance governance forums and make sure actions are tracked to closure
- Provide constructive challenge and practical support to capability owners on obligations and control effectiveness
- Work closely with group risk, compliance, internal audit, legal,
company secretariat and financial reporting teams to keep the licensed entity aligned with broader group requirements
- Support regulatory reviews, audits and information requests (ASIC and AUSTRAC) where required
- Help build a high-risk and compliance culture across the business and its capability teams
What you bring
- 3 to 5 years' experience in one or more AFSL and AML/CTF licensed entities in financial services, ideally in an operational risk or compliance team
- Experience supporting governance, risk and compliance in complex or outsourced operating environments (highly regarded)
- Hands-on experience maintaining obligations registers, risk registers and control frameworks
- Experience supporting control attestation, issue management and breach management
- Solid understanding of AML/CTF obligations and financial crime risk management
- Strong working knowledge of ASIC's financial services licensing regime, corporate governance concepts and current AML/CTF laws
- Demonstrated ability to assess, challenge and validate control effectiveness and evidence
- Experience preparing governance and compliance reporting for leadership forums, committees or regulated entities
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders across a large organisation, with the ability to influence and challenge without direct authority
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or a professional certification
- AI literacy and a willingness to use emerging tools (desirable)
Who succeeds here
Someone credible and practical, comfortable working in a complex, evolving environment, and able to bring people along rather than just point out gaps. There are no direct reports, and the role is operational, supporting others to deliver.
