Full-time | B2B Marketing | Events | Digital, Content & AI
Want a marketing role where you can actually make a difference?
Congress is looking for an experienced, hands-on Marketing Specialist who wants the opportunity to take their career beyond a conventional marketing role.
Based with our team in Gladesville, Sydney, you’ll work across all aspects of our marketing in Australia while increasingly supporting our businesses across the Asia-Pacific region.
We are a specialist event technology company working behind the scenes at conferences and major international events. Our services include simultaneous interpretation, conference microphone systems, event technology and an expanding range of AI and language technology solutions.
We’re not looking for someone to simply follow an established marketing formula.
We’re looking for someone who is curious, creative and commercially minded; someone who can take an idea and run with it, question how we’re doing things today and find better ways of doing them tomorrow.
You’ll be our key full time marketing person, working closely with our Australian team and supporting our international offices. You’ll have plenty of opportunity to contribute your own ideas, while working with experienced people across the business who know our customers, technology and markets.
What you’ll be doing
This is deliberately a broad, hands-on marketing role. Depending on what’s happening in the business, you could be:
- Developing and delivering marketing campaigns across Australia and, increasingly, our international markets.
- Creating content for LinkedIn, websites, email campaigns, case studies, industry publications and other channels.
- Managing and improving our websites, including content, landing pages and SEO.
- Working with Google Ads, analytics and reporting to understand what’s working — and what isn’t.
- Attending exhibitions, networking events and industry functions, meeting prospective customers and helping turn those contacts into future opportunities.
- Travelling occasionally within Australia and internationally to support exhibitions, marketing activities and major events.
- Getting involved when Congress delivers major international events. We’re an events company, and when something significant is happening, we believe there’s enormous value in our marketing people seeing and experiencing what we actually do.
- Working with our management and sales teams to identify markets,
events and organisations that Congress should be targeting, and developing campaigns to reach them.
- Creating and editing photos, video and other marketing material.
- Developing relationships with relevant industry publications, associations and convention bureaus.
- Monitoring marketing performance and using data to help decide where we should spend our time and money.
- Exploring how AI can improve our marketing — from research and content creation through to analysis, automation and better marketing workflows. We’re particularly interested in people who are already finding practical ways to use AI to work smarter.
- Continually questioning and improving the way we do things.
That last point is important to us. Our existing marketing roadmap was deliberately built around the principle that our processes aren’t set in stone: as new channels and better processes emerge, our approach should evolve with them.
Who we’re looking for
You’ll have a Marketing degree and at least two years of post-graduate marketing experience.
Experience in the events, conferences or exhibitions industry would be a strong advantage, but it isn’t essential. We’d also be very interested in excellent B2B marketers from areas such as technology, AV, hospitality, professional services or other industries where you’ve had to understand a product or service and work out how best to take it to market.
You don’t need to have international marketing experience. We’re more interested in finding someone with strong marketing fundamentals, initiative and the ability to grow into the international aspects of the role.
More important to us is what you’re capable of doing.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is self-motivated and doesn’t need to be constantly told what to do next.
- Is comfortable both coming up with ideas and actually executing them.
- Writes extremely well and has excellent attention to detail.
- Is confident talking to customers and representing Congress at exhibitions and networking events.
- Understands that good marketing ultimately needs to create opportunities and results for the business.
- Is comfortable with digital marketing and has experience with some combination of websites/CMS, SEO, Google Ads, analytics, email marketing, social media and content creation.
- Is genuinely interested in AI and can demonstrate how they are already using it to work more effectively.
- Can look at data, draw sensible conclusions and adjust what they’re doing as a result.
- Is willing to learn new systems and isn’t intimidated by technology.
- Enjoys working with people across different countries and cultures.
- Takes ownership. If something isn’t working, we’d rather you tell us, suggest something better and test it.
We don’t expect you to know every platform we currently use. Our marketing environment includes tools such as Wix, Google Analytics/Looker Studio, Mailchimp, Canva and other specialist platforms.
We’re more interested in your ability to learn, experiment and deliver than whether you’ve previously used exactly the same software.
Applicants must have permanent working rights in Australia.
Why Congress?
We’re a specialist business doing some surprisingly large things.
Congress has operations across the Asia-Pacific region and provides specialist technology and language services for conferences and major events. That means this role offers opportunities that aren’t always available in a conventional marketing position.
You’ll get exposure to international markets, travel, exhibitions and significant events while working directly with the people running the business.
You also won’t be one small part of a large marketing department. Your ideas will be heard, you’ll be able to see the results of what you do, and you’ll have considerable scope to shape how we market the business.
We’re looking for someone who wants to grow with the role. You don’t need to arrive with international marketing experience or know everything about our industry. We’ll give you the prospect to learn the business, take on greater responsibility and develop your experience as you demonstrate what you can do.
We don’t expect you to arrive knowing everything. We do expect you to arrive wanting to learn everything.
As your capability, knowledge of our business and contribution develop, we expect the scope, responsibility and remuneration of the position to develop with you.
Where you’ll work The role is based at our Gladesville office in Sydney.
