Parkes Shire Council is looking for a Concreting and Civil Construction Labourer to join our Urban Operations team in a permanent full-time position.Previous civil construction experience is not essential.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, willing to learn and takes pride in doing a positive job.
If you have the right attitude and a strong work ethic, Council will support you to develop your skills through on-the-job training and formal training opportunities, including the opportunity to undertake a Certificate III in Concreting.This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for their first full-time job, a school leaver wanting to learn a trade, or someone looking to build a career in civil construction.Working under the direction of the Urban Works Supervisor, you will work alongside an experienced team delivering and maintaining essential infrastructure across the Parkes Shire, including kerb and gutter, footpaths, drainage systems and roads.You'll gain practical experience across a range of civil construction activities while contributing to projects that directly benefit our local community.More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:Assisting with road construction and maintenance, including tar patchingAssisting with concrete works,
including kerb and gutter, footpaths, roads and drainageInstalling and maintaining signs and roadside furnitureUndertaking traffic control duties, including completing and maintaining required certificationOperating and maintaining small plant and equipmentAssisting with works survey set-outUndertaking maintenance of Council assets and facilities as requiredCompleting tasks as directed by the Supervisor in line with operational requirementsWorking safely and following Council's safety standards, procedures and instructionsMaintaining accurate records of work activitiesWorking collaboratively with the team and contributing to a positive workplaceThis is a hands-on role where you'll be learning by doing, developing practical skills and working alongside experienced civil construction employees.Further information on the role is contained in the Position Description.About YouWe are looking for people who:Have a strong work ethic and a positive attitudeAre reliable, punctual and take pride in doing a good jobEnjoy working outdoors and as part of a teamAre willing to learn new skills and undertake trainingValue safety and follow workplace proceduresHave good communication skillsTo be successful in this position you will need:Current and maintained Drivers LicenceSafeWork NSW Construction induction (White Card)The ability to work safely and follow instructionsPrevious hands-on experience in civil construction, concreting, landscaping, maintenance or a similar environment will be highly regarded, but we are also keen to hear from applicants who are new to the industry and are looking for an opportunity to learn.It will be highly favorable if you possess any of the following:Experience using hand tools or small plant and equipmentSome experience in construction, maintenance, landscaping, agriculture or other practical workBasic literacy and numeracy skillsConfidence using electronic devicesA genuine interest in developing a career in civil construction and concretingBenefitsThe appointment will be in accordance with the Local Government (State)
Award and Parkes Shire Council's policies and conditions of employment.The role has been evaluated as being Grade 2 of the Council's salary structure with a commencing salary of $55,****** ($***** to $***** per hour).
