- Join a 4th-generation Australian business backed by private equity

- Chance to help build the commercial finance capability as the Group scales revenue

- Broad exposure across customers, products, regions, entities and international operations

About Sheffield Group

Sheffield Group is a successful Australian manufacturer and distributor of industrial tools and accessories, with a strong market position across cutting, drilling, hand tools, measuring products, impact tools and power tool accessories.

Originally established as a family business in the 1970s, Sheffield is now backed by Seidler Equity Partners and is entering an exciting phase of growth. The Group has completed multiple acquisitions in Australia and New Zealand, with further in the pipeline.

With 100+ employees and scaling revenue, this is a business undergoing meaningful transformation — combining the entrepreneurial culture of a successful family business with the investment and growth agenda of a PE-backed organisation.

About the Role

Reporting to the CFO, this newly created Commercial Accountant role will sit at the intersection of finance and the wider business.

You will be responsible for turning financial and operational data into meaningful insights that help leaders make better decisions. This is not a traditional month-end accounting role — you'll work closely with Sales, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to understand what is driving performance and where the business can improve.

The role will have broad exposure across customers, products, channels, regions, entities and currencies,

with a particular focus on profitability, margin, cash flow and commercial decision-making.

Key responsibilities include:

- Analyse performance across customers, products, channels, regions and entities to identify trends, risks and opportunities

- Develop and automate reporting across revenue, gross margin, costs, cash flow and profitability

- Provide commercial analysis for pricing decisions, tenders, contracts, investments, business cases and other strategic initiatives

- Partner with Sales and Supply Chain to understand commercial performance and identify opportunities to improve results

- Monitor key customer and contract profitability, identifying margin leakage and opportunities to improve returns

- Build forecasts, scenario analysis and cash flow reporting to support forward-looking decision-making

- Monitor foreign currency exposures and support the management of hedging activities

- Develop dashboards and management reporting that clearly communicate the key drivers behind business performance

- Improve the consistency, accuracy and reliability of financial data and reporting across the Group

- Identify opportunities to automate and simplify finance and broader business processes

- Provide constructive challenge to business leaders and escalate material commercial, liquidity, control or compliance risks to the CFO

About You

You will be a CA or CPA qualified accountant with at least two years' commercial accounting experience and a strong interest in understanding what drives business performance.

You don't need to have worked in a PE-backed environment previously, but you'll need to be commercially curious, comfortable with ambiguity and confident working directly with non-finance stakeholders.

You will bring:

- CA or CPA qualification

- 2+ years' commercial/management accounting experience

- Strong financial modelling, forecasting, scenario analysis and cash flow skills

- Demonstrated experience analysing profitability and explaining the drivers of performance to business leaders

- Experience supporting commercial decisions such as pricing, tenders, contracts, investments or business cases

- Strong Excel skills and experience working with a large ERP such as SAP, Pronto, Oracle or similar

- A track record of improving reporting, processes, automation or data quality

- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to translate financial information into clear recommendations

- High attention to detail, sound commercial judgement and the confidence to constructively challenge assumptions

Experience across sales, distribution, inventory or product-led businesses, as well as exposure to FX, hedging, multiple entities or international operations, would be highly regarded.

If you're a commercially minded accountant who wants to move beyond reporting the numbers and play a genuine role in improving business performance, please contact Cody Johnson on 04•• ••• 723 or ••••@future-you.com.au
