About the role: As a Metallurgical Technician at BML, you will be a key member of our laboratory team responsible for executing a variety of metallurgical testwork and sample preparation programs. Working in our Coopers Plains laboratory, you will perform hands‐on testing, operate specialized testing equipment, and support process evaluation to ensure reliable, high‐quality, and rapid results for our mining clients.
This role provides an outstanding opportunity to apply technical data analysis and practical laboratory skills within a dynamic, multi‐commodity testing workplace.
Metallurgical Testing & Surveys: Execute bench‐scale metallurgical testwork,



including flotation, leaching, solvent extraction, and gravity separation programs, in accordance with client specifications and study requirements.
Sample Preparation & Geoanalytical Testing: Coordinate and undertake sample preparation, pulverising, screening, and preliminary geoanalytical analysis (including pXRF and QXRD sample preparation) to maintain high data accuracy and rapid turnaround times.
Equipment Operations: Start up, shut down, adjust, and safely operate laboratory and pilot‐scale testing equipment in strict accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Equipment & Lab Performance: Monitor key laboratory testing equipment, tools, and consumables to ensure components are calibrated, maintained, and operating at peak performance.
Quality Control & Data Review: Conduct routine quality control checks on test samples, solutions, and assays.
Review operating logs and experimental data to identify inconsistencies, ensuring full technical compliance and data integrity.
Metallurgical Reporting: Maintain accurate, timely records of all laboratory test parameters, assay results, and operational logs.
Assist in compiling precise data sheets and daily/weekly progress summaries for senior metallurgists and client reporting.
Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Identify and resolve routine equipment issues or testing anomalies.
Provide technical support to the laboratory team and collaborate closely with senior metallurgists on complex testwork initiatives.
Safety & Confidentiality Compliance: Strictly adhere to laboratory safety practices,



relevant Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations, and internal SOPs while maintaining strict client confidentiality across all testwork programs.
Key Requirements:
Education: Degree or Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a relevant material science discipline.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in a metallurgical laboratory, mineral processing facility, or assay laboratory, with strong hands‐on experience in flotation, leaching, or sample preparation.
Licences: Possession of a valid Queensland Driver's Licence (manual preferred) and the ability to acquire any required laboratory safety tickets or radiation safety licences (e.g., for pXRF operation).
Technical Skills: Sound technical understanding of metallurgical testwork methodologies, mechanical aptitude for managing laboratory machinery, and a proven ability to collect, interpret, and document qualitative and quantitative data.
Personal Attributes: Highly detail‐oriented, safety‐conscious, self‐motivated, and possessing a strong, reliable work ethic suitable for a fast‐paced small team environment.
Strong problem‐solving skills and the ability to follow detailed technical procedures accurately.
Pre‐Employment Screening: Must be able to pass a comprehensive Pre‐Employment Medical examination, including a drug and alcohol screen.
