About the Organisation:
Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) is the Native Title Representative Body (NTRB), delivering native title and other services across the Pilbara, Mid West, Murchison and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia. YMAC is run by a First Nations board of directors, representing several native title groups, each of whom have their own language, culture, traditions and protocols.
YMAC services include native title claim and future act representation; heritage services; executive office, community, and economic development assistance; land administration, and natural resource management support.

About the Role
YMAC is currently seeking a full time (37.5 hours per week) Senior Accountant to join the team in our Perth office on a permanent contract.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering specialist financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, compliance and audit services to assigned Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) supported by YMAC.
Operating with a high degree of professional autonomy, the role establishes and maintains effective financial systems and controls, provides quality assurance and technical leadership within the Finance team, and delivers strategic and technical financial advice to PBC boards and other decision-makers.
The position supports each PBC to meet its financial, statutory, governance and funding obligations, ensuring financial information is accurate, reliable and fit for decision-making. The role also identifies and escalates material financial and compliance risks to the Group Financial Controller and relevant PBC board.
About You
You will have demonstrated experience in financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, compliance and audit, with the ability to operate with a high degree of professional autonomy.
You will have strong technical accounting skills and experience establishing and maintaining effective financial systems, controls and reporting processes. You will be confident providing financial advice to boards, senior stakeholders and decision-makers, and translating complex financial information into clear and practical advice.
You will have a strong understanding of financial, statutory, governance and funding requirements, with the ability to identify, assess and appropriately escalate financial and compliance risks.
You will also bring strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to provide technical guidance and quality assurance within a Finance team while building effective working relationships with PBCs, boards and key stakeholders.

Selection Criteria
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or other relevant discipline.
- Current professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent) is desirable.
- Minimum 5-8 years of accounting experience, preferably in a medium to large organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, statutory compliance and audit management.
- Demonstrated understanding and practical application of Australian accounting standards, statutory reporting obligations,
and effective financial controls.
- Demonstrated proficiency working with ERP systems and advanced Excel skills, including the ability to analyse, reconcile and present complex financial data.
- Experience providing accounting services to PBCs, Aboriginal corporations, not-for-profit organisations or other entities with comparable governance, funding and statutory obligations is desirable.
Skills
- Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate and timely financial reporting and statutory compliance.
- Demonstrated capability in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and translating financial results into clear recommendations for decision-makers.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capability, including the ability to identify financial risks, investigate complex issues and recommend proportionate corrective action.
- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, sound professional judgement and quality assurance when reviewing financial information and the work of others.
- Excellent communication, consultation and relationship-management skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly and respectfully to PBC boards and other stakeholders with differing levels of financial knowledge.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
