Kirbyko is an outsourced finance function for Australian SMEs and not-for-profits. We handle everything from day-to-day bookkeeping and payroll through to compliance, management reporting and board-level finance support.

We started as a generalist bookkeeping firm, but over time we’ve found our niche in the not-for-profit space. That’s where we’re putting our energy now, and we’re building Kirbyko into a specialist finance partner for NFPs across Australia.

About this role

Put simply, I need someone who can take a genuine load off me.

The business is growing, and I need to spend more of my time on sales, strategy and where Kirbyko goes next - rather than being across client communication, files, and recurring touchpoints.

Initially, you’ll work closely with me. Over time, the goal is for you to take real ownership of a portfolio of clients: being their main point of contact, keeping work moving, reviewing what the team produces and making sure the standard stays high.

I’m not looking for someone to come in on day one and run the whole show. I am looking for someone experienced enough to take responsibility, make good judgement calls, ask questions when needed, and gradually become someone I can trust to own this part of the business.

About you

This is still a hands-on bookkeeping role, but there’s room for it to become much more than that.

You’ll probably suit Kirbyko if you like the idea of joining a smaller business where your contribution genuinely matters, rather than disappearing into a huge team with a tiny slice of responsibility.

On the technical side, we’re looking for:

- 5+ years’ Australian bookkeeping experience

- Strong, hands-on Xero knowledge

- Experience with Dext, Hubdoc, Fathom and Excel is a bonus





- Not-for-profit experience is a big plus

- Confidence taking responsibility while still working within director oversight

- No need to hold your own BAS agent registration

What you'll be doing

- Progressively becoming the main contact for an allocated client portfolio

- Managing client emails, questions and day-to-day correspondence

- Joining client meetings when needed

- Reviewing bookkeeping completed by the team for accuracy and quality

- Conducting file audits and reviewing client files for completeness

- Preparing and lodging BASs and IASs

- Processing and reviewing payroll, superannuation and STP

- Leading payables and receivables processes

- Preparing and reviewing management

A bit more about Kirbyko

A lot of the organisations we work with are trying to do genuinely useful things in the world. If their finances are running properly, more of their time and money can go toward that work instead of getting swallowed by admin and financial mess.

That’s a big reason we’ve chosen to focus on the NFP sector.

We’re also paying close attention to where bookkeeping and finance are heading. Technology is going to change this industry quickly, and I’d rather be early than spend the next five years pretending it isn’t happening.

You don’t need to be a tech expert. You do need to be curious, willing to try recent tools and comfortable changing the way things have traditionally been done when there’s a better way.

And finally, culture. Every job ad seems to claim the company has an amazing one. We’re still small enough that ours is being built in real time.

What I want Kirbyko to be is pretty simple: a team that solves problems together, takes the work seriously without taking itself too seriously, asks for help when needed, and doesn’t expect any one person to have all the answers.
