Mentor – Reniu Pasifika Mentoring Program

Make a difference in Pasifika young people's lives!

Location: Melbourne
Hours: Minimum 4 hours per week
Part-Time: Hybrid Role

Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia (BBBS), in partnership with Charis Youth and Community, delivers Reniu—a culturally grounded Pasifika mentoring program for young people aged 12–18 involved in the Youth Justice system.

Guided by the Tautai Ecological Model, the program fosters identity, connection, and resilience through consistent one-to-one mentoring and group-based engagement.

The Role:

This unique paid Mentoring role is your opportunity to support Pasifika young people navigating the Youth Justice system, helping them strengthen their cultural identity, wellbeing, and connection to community through one-to-one mentoring and group activities.

Mentors are responsible for providing direct, culturally appropriate mentoring to Pasifika young people across the Youth Justice continuum. This includes those on supervised bail, Youth parole, Children’s Court Youth Diversion, and community-based orders.

Mentors will deliver a 10-week Culture and Identity program in one-to-one sessions, participate in pro-social group activities alongside their mentees and support any of their employment/education goals .

You’ll:

- Commit to mentoring for 14 week blocks (approx. 4 hrs/week)

- Participate and deliver in the 10-week Reniu Culture and Identity curriculum

- Build a consistent and trusting relationship with your mentee

- Deliver themes such as Pasifika values, wellbeing, resilience, and cultural identity

- Encourage reflection using a provided journal

- Participate in group cultural/pro-social activities with your mentee

- Support young people to strengthen identity, agency,



community connection and any employment or educational goals.

We’re looking for someone who:

- Robust understanding of Pasifika cultures and values

- Lived experience with the Youth Justice system or related systems is highly regarded

- We are especially encouraging male mentors to take part, as many young men in our community are looking for strong role models who can share culture, guidance, and support.

- Experience supporting young people in formal or informal settings

- Able to commit to the full duration of the program

- Empathetic, reliable, and culturally aware

- Working with Children Check and Police Check required

- Driver’s license required

- Mentors are paid under the SCHADS Award Level 2.1 – Part Time, current rate is $36.22 plus superannuation and salary sacrifice
