The VCAA is a statutory body responsible to the Victorian Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools. We provide high quality curriculum, assessment and reporting for all Victorian student's birth to 18 years.

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Corporate Services Division in the Assessment Applications Unit for a fixed-term position.

- Salary: $100,894- $114,476 (Plus Superannuation of 12%)
- Fixed term until 1st March 2027
- Usual hours of work: Full time (versatile work conditions are available)
- Usual work location: East Melbourne

About the Unit

The Assessment Applications unit is responsible for the ongoing development, support and maintenance of critical bespoke applications that are used to deliver the Victorian Certificate of Education, Vocational Education and Training, Victorian Pathways Certificate and National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy.

Role Purpose

A Database Administrator role is available with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority from as soon as possible to 01/03/2027.

The purpose of this role is to provide Database Administration services for the VCAA. The role is critical in the ongoing support of bespoke business applications that are used for the delivery of VCE, VET, VPC and NAPLAN.

This role provides specialist advice and support for database related activities within the VCAA. VCAA use both Oracle and SQL Server databases. Skills in managing both are required.

Providing on call support during critical business processing periods (mid-September to mid-December) is a requirement of this position. The work is shared with other members of the Database Administration team.

Qualifications and Experience

- Required: Extensive experience in database administration of Oracle and SQL Server databases on a Windows platform.
- Required: Experience in writing SQL programs to perform database administration, data manipulation and reporting tasks.
- Desired: Experience in the use of embedded SQL in other languages (such as ASP.NET (C#), Uniface, ColdFusion) is an advantage. In particular, regarding diagnosing issues like poor performance in in-house developed applications that interact with the databases
- Desirable: Strong understanding of the VCE Senior Secondary education system - VCE, VPC, VET
