About the role
Mancala is seeking an experienced Underground Mining Manager to join our team in Zambia. This is a full time, fly-in-fly-out position, supporting our project in Zambia to excavate a pump chamber and other associated underground works. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will oversee all underground mining activities, ensuring protected, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
Key responsibilities
Leading and promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with all procedures
Planning, coordinating, and optimising underground operations and resource usage
Overseeing workforce schedules, task allocation, and performance
Driving continuous improvement and environmentally responsible practices
Providing leadership, mentorship, and development for team members
Managing employee relations, including performance and disciplinary matters
Supporting project planning, budgeting, and monthly reporting
About you
A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline is mandatory in order to hold the statutory appointment and gain an employment permit
Strong knowledge of underground mining operations, with a proven commitment to safety best practices
A minimum of 15 years' experience in underground mining, including extensive time in leadership roles, ideally within Africa
Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively engage and manage a diverse range of stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic and challenging environments
Willingness and ability to obtain required Zambian certifications and successfully complete comprehensive medical assessments
