Our client, a global leader in high-end scientific instrumentation, is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth across its Material Sciences Research Microscopy portfolio in Australia and New Zealand.
This is a genuine opportunity to combine consultative sales with deep technical expertise, working alongside universities, government research institutes, commercial laboratories, start-ups and industrial organisations to position advanced microscopy solutions as the partner of choice for materials characterisation, failure analysis and quality control.
You will manage the complete sales cycle for complex capital equipment, from identifying new opportunities and building relationships with materials scientists, engineers and R&D; leaders, through to quotations, tenders, contract negotiation and ongoing technical support.
Key Responsibilities
Achieve annual sales, revenue and gross profit targets across industrial, academic and research markets
Develop and execute territory and account plans to deliver sustainable growth
Identify, qualify and secure new business opportunities across research and commercial markets
Build strong relationships with key decision-makers, materials scientists, engineers, R&D; teams and technical leaders




Manage complex capital equipment sales, including quotations, tenders and contract negotiations
Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, forecasting and CRM records aligned to customer projects and purchasing cycles
Deliver product demonstrations, technical presentations and application-focused guidance throughout the sales process
Support customer evaluations, installations and user training in collaboration with Product Management and Applications teams
Represent the business at conferences, workshops and industry events
About You
Degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Metallurgy, Physics or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
Demonstrated success in business development or technical sales of scientific or capital equipment
Strong commercial acumen with experience managing complex sales opportunities
Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills
Current Australian Driver Licence and ability to travel throughout Australia and Current Zealand
Highly Regarded
Experience with advanced microscopy, materials characterisation or imaging technologies (optical, electron or X-ray microscopy)
Postgraduate research experience or PhD
Experience within universities, manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, mining, metallurgy or industrial R&D; markets
Experience using Salesforce CRM or equivalent
