Role Purpose & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager Engagement, you will be responsible for leading the stakeholder engagement practice across various key projects. You will act as a lead-level advisor, translating highly complex technical work into explicit, accessible, and high-impact key messaging.
You will support a designated number of identified managers whose primary skillsets are technically focused, rather than rooted in traditional engagement. You will act as a mentor and relationship manager, equipping them with the tools and capability to manage high-level external relations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning:
Develop and execute comprehensive stakeholder engagement plans and strategies across a diverse range of projects.
Capacity Building & Support:
Uplift internal capability by acting as a relationship manager for other roles, providing specialized advice and tactical support to identified managers handling high-level relations.
Complex Communications:
Review complex project frameworks to extract, synthesize, and deliver clear, targeted key messaging for diverse external audiences.
Relationship Management:
Drive open,



transparent, and trusted information exchanges between the organisation, ELT/SLT, regulators, peer authorities, and government departments.
Risk Mitigation & Systems:
Embed robust systems, tracking mechanisms, and feedback loops to proactively map stakeholders, monitor sentiment, and mitigate reputational risks.
Key Selection Criteria
To succeed in this role, you will bring a supportive and relational personality paired with a sophisticated understanding of government relations.
Government & Complex Relations:
Demonstrated background working within government relations or a complex, highly regulated stakeholder environment (e.g., utilities, infrastructure, or public sector).
Strategic Capability & Complex Messaging:
Proven ability to navigate complex streams of work, identify critical risks, and distill technical jargon into meaningful key messages.
Influence & Coaching Personality:
Advanced interpersonal skills to naturally support, mentor, and gently guide managers with different technical skillsets.
Stakeholder Framework Execution:
Extensive experience in stakeholder mapping, sentiment tracking, and executing engagement plans across multiple simultaneous projects.
Qualifications:
A tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline, alongside substantial experience in a senior strategic engagement role.
