About the role
HYH Management Pty Ltd is looking for an
Assistant Buyer
to join our buying team in Hawthorn East, Victoria. This is a full-time position that offers an exciting chance to develop your career in retail and consumer products buying. As an Assistant Buyer, you will support the buying function by assisting in the selection, negotiation, and procurement of products that meet our customers' needs and our business objectives. This role is crucial to ensuring we maintain strong supplier relationships and optimise our product range and inventory levels across our operations.
What you'll be doing




Support the Buyer in developing seasonal and core product ranges across assigned categories, in line with Daiso's value-retail positioning and price architecture
Assist in sourcing new product opportunities from existing and prospective suppliers, including product research and market/competitor analysis
Prepare and maintain product specification sheets, sample trackers and range plans, and coordinate sampling through to internal sign-off
Raise, amend and track purchase orders in line with agreed cost prices, quantities and delivery windows, liaising with suppliers and freight forwarders on order confirmations and shipment schedules
Monitor order status, delays and short-shipments, escalating risks proactively
Assist with landed cost calculations and retail price recommendations to support target margins
Prepare regular reporting on sell-through, stock cover, open-to-buy and category performance
Monitor inventory performance and support replenishment, clearance and stock-balancing decisions
Assist with sales forecasting and demand planning to support purchasing decisions
Coordinate cross-functionally with Logistics on shipment scheduling and DC delivery timing, Marketing on product information and imagery, and Store Operations/Regional Managers on range feedback and store-level performance
Maintain accurate, audit-ready supplier, pricing and compliance records, including product safety, labelling and certification documentation




What we re're looking for
Minimum 1- 3 years of experience in buying and procurement.
A qualification in business, commerce, retail management or a related field.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, inventory reports and market trends
Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and experience with buying or inventory management systems
Attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
A commercial mindset with an understanding of profit margins, cost management and value for money
Ability to work collaboratively within a team whilst also taking initiative on assigned projects
Knowledge of the retail and consumer products sector is highly desirable
Previous experience in a buying, procurement or retail environment is advantageous
