As a licensed Pryda fabricator, the business combines the latest design and processing technologies with an experienced production team to deliver certified products built to each customer's exact requirements, supported by in-house estimating and design, timber sales, a comprehensive lock-up and fixing range covering doors, hardware, skirting, architraves and board products, and its own delivery fleet.
The company supplies commercial builders, residential volume and custom builders, and owner-builders alike, and its reputation rests on engineering accuracy, certified quality and reliable supply — values reflected in a workplace that is safety-focused, technically rigorous and genuinely collaborative between the design office and the factory floor.
About the Position This is a newly created position established to strengthen the engineering capability behind the company's manufacturing operation.
Working from the Somerton plant and reporting directly to Harun Sahin, the Mechanical Engineer will take responsibility for the design, specification and performance of the plant's machinery, jigs, presses and materials-handling systems, and for the engineering standards that govern how prefabricated truss and frame components are designed, fabricated, tested and released to site.
The role sits at the point where design output, production throughput and product certification meet, and it carries real influence over material yield, plant reliability and the structural integrity of every component that leaves the factory for a commercial, residential or owner-builder project.
Key Responsibilities Design, specify and modify mechanical plant, machinery, jigs,



presses and materials-handling systems used in the fabrication of prefabricated timber roof trusses, wall frames and floor trusses.
Determine, negotiate and agree technical specifications and user requirements with builders, designers and internal estimating and production staff, and translate project requirements into manufacturable component designs.
Prepare engineering calculations and specifications for structural timber components, ensuring designs satisfy the relevant Australian Standards, the National Construction Code and manufacturer fabrication requirements.
Plan and manage engineering projects from concept through to commissioning, including preparation of materials, cost and timing estimates and coordination of the labour, plant and equipment required to deliver them.
Develop manufacturing specifications and determine the materials, equipment, componentry, labour and machining costs associated with each design.
Establish and maintain standards and procedures for the installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance of plant and equipment, consistent with sound engineering principles and workplace health and safety obligations.
Inspect plant and production equipment to ensure optimum performance is maintained, investigate mechanical failures and production faults, and implement corrective and preventative engineering solutions.
Direct and coordinate the maintenance of plant, buildings and equipment, including maintenance schedules, plant surveys and the introduction of new equipment or design changes into the production environment.
Analyse production data and material yield to identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce timber wastage and make more effective use of materials across the fabrication process.
Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation,



test records and certification records supporting the quality and compliance of finished products.
Provide technical advice and support to estimating, design and production personnel, and to customers where engineering input is required to resolve a design, fabrication or installation issue.
Contribute to continuous improvement, risk assessment and safe systems of work across the manufacturing facility.

A bachelor degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; alternatively, applicants with at least three years of directly relevant engineering experience will be considered.
A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a mechanical engineering role, ideally gained in manufacturing, prefabricated building components, structural timber or a comparable production environment.
Demonstrated ability to produce and interpret engineering drawings and to work with computer-aided design and structural design software.
Sound working knowledge of the Australian Standards and National Construction Code requirements applicable to structural timber design and prefabricated building components.
Practical understanding of production machinery, mechanical maintenance, plant reliability and workplace health and safety obligations in a factory setting.
Competence in engineering calculations, materials selection, costing and technical specification writing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose faults and deliver practical engineering solutions under production pressure.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical requirements clearly to production staff, builders and customers.
A collaborative approach, sound judgement, attention to detail and the availability to work full time, 38 hours per week, at the Somerton facility.
