Collins Executive Recruitment has been exclusively mandated to appoint a Finance Manager for a fast-growing Melbourne funds manager. The firm specialises in listed equities and has several billion in assets under management.
The business combines institutional investment standards with the pace and access of a much smaller firm. It is entering an unusually exciting period: integrating another operation, strengthening the finance function, improving its systems and working out where AI can remove manual work and produce better information.
The routine bookkeeping and transactional work is managed externally. What remains is the work that requires judgement: owning the numbers, understanding what sits behind them and deciding how the finance function should operate as the business grows.
You will work closely with an impressive senior finance leader who is known for developing people and giving them room to take responsibility. The broader team is young, intelligent and curious.
They move quickly, ask valuable questions and expect finance to contribute to the business rather than simply report on it.
You will take ownership of:
Month-end, management reporting and financial control across Australian and international operations
Budgets, rolling cashflow forecasts and commercial analysis for management and the Board
Statutory accounts, tax, audit and regulatory requirements, working closely with external advisers
Oversight of outsourced bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management
Finance systems, internal controls, process improvement and workflow automation
The practical implementation of AI tools across relevant finance and business processes




Commercial reviews of suppliers, contracts, external providers and growth projects
A significant business integration affecting systems, reporting, processes and the wider operating model
About you:
The role will suit a CA or CPA-qualified accountant with approximately 4-8 years' experience.
You may already be a Finance Manager, or you may be a Senior Financial Accountant or Group Accountant ready to take ownership of a broader function. Experience in funds management, investment management, wealth, private capital, family office or a closely related financial‐services business is required.
You should have owned a close, dealt directly with auditors and advisers, prepared budgets and forecasts, understood cash and controls, and improved at least one process that everyone else had learned to tolerate.
They want someone technically sound and commercially awake. Someone who notices where time is being wasted, asks why a process exists and is prepared to build a better one.
