We're seeking an experienced Underwriting Team Leader to lead a high-performing team of underwriters and play a key role in delivering underwriting strategy, portfolio performance and broker outcomes across the Business Packages portfolio.

This role sits at the centre of the transformation of SME underwriting at QBE. As automation increasingly handles routine decision-making, our underwriters are becoming portfolio managers, broker advisors, problem solvers and risk specialists. As an Underwriting Team Leader, you will play a critical role in shaping that future, helping develop the next generation of SME underwriters while influencing portfolio performance, broker strategy and underwriting capability.

Your new role

In this role you will:

- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team of underwriters, building capability, accountability and engagement while delivering strong customer, broker and business outcomes
- Own portfolio performance across your team, using data and insights to identify trends, improve underwriting quality and deliver sustainable profitable growth
- Actively represent QBE in the market, strengthening broker relationships,



supporting growth opportunities and building broker-facing capability across the team
- Drive the implementation of underwriting strategies, business initiatives and change programs that improve portfolio performance, operational effectiveness and customer outcomes
- Provide technical underwriting leadership and guidance on complex referrals, risk decisions, underwriting governance and regulatory matters while improving underwriting judgement and decision quality across the team.
- Identify, escalate and manage portfolio, operational and governance risks while fostering a culture of sound underwriting judgement, risk awareness and continuous improvement

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Proven experience leading underwriting teams within the General Insurance industry
- Strong underwriting expertise with a track record of delivering profitable portfolio outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop high-performing teams, including leading people through change
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted broker relationships and develop broker-facing capability
- A commercial mindset with strong analytical, decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience driving change, improving processes and balancing customer, broker, operational and portfolio considerations to deliver business outcomes
