About the role

Hireyu is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer – PNG Projects to join our dynamic engineering team. This is a contract position based in Brisbane, QLD 4000, offering an excellent chance to contribute to significant infrastructure and industrial projects across Papua New Guinea. In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical engineering aspects of project delivery, ensuring adherence to specifications, timelines, and quality standards. This position is strategically important to our organisation as it directly impacts project success, stakeholder satisfaction, and our reputation as a leading engineering provider in the region.

Key responsibilities

- Manage mechanical engineering design, analysis, and documentation for PNG-based projects from conception through to completion

- Prepare detailed mechanical designs, calculations, and technical specifications in accordance with project requirements and industry standards

- Conduct feasibility studies and technical assessments to support project planning and development

- Liaise with project managers, clients, and stakeholders to ensure mechanical engineering deliverables align with project objectives and timelines

- Review and approve equipment selections, procurement specifications, and mechanical systems installations

- Oversee mechanical installation, testing, and commissioning activities on-site

- Identify and mitigate mechanical engineering risks and develop solutions to technical challenges

- Maintain comprehensive project documentation including design drawings, reports, calculations, and as-built records





- Ensure compliance with relevant Australian and Papua New Guinean standards, codes, and regulatory requirements

- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and provide technical guidance to junior team members as required

What we're looking for

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional qualification from a recognised institution

- Professional engineering registration or eligibility for registration with Engineers Australia

- Minimum 5–7 years of professional mechanical engineering experience in project-based environments

- Demonstrated experience in mechanical design, analysis, and project delivery within industrial, infrastructure, or mining sectors

- Excellent knowledge of relevant Australian and international engineering standards and codes

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients

- Proven project management capabilities including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning

- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions

- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to PNG project sites as required

- Preferred: Experience in oil and gas, energy, or resource extraction projects
