We currently have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated individual to commence a Fitting & Turning Apprenticeship at a Geelong-based refinery while completing a nationally recognised Certificate III qualification.

The refinery plays an important role in Victoria’s fuel supply and produces a range of products, including bitumen for road construction and jet fuel for Melbourne and Avalon Airports. The workplace offers a supportive and collaborative team environment, with a strong focus on creating opportunities for people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

What does the role entail?

As an Apprentice Fitter and Turner, you will develop precision engineering skills and gain hands‑on experience using a variety of tools, machinery and equipment.

Working primarily with steel and mechanical components, you will learn how to manufacture and adjust parts, maintain equipment, and repair items such as motors, pumps and valves.

This is a practical, hands‑on role requiring accuracy, problem‑solving skills and strong teamwork. You will spend time both in the workshop and throughout the refinery, working as part of a team responsible for maintaining equipment and helping keep refinery operations running safely and effectively.

Duties may include:

- Performing engineering measurements
- General machining
- Shutting down and isolating machinery and equipment
- Dismantling, replacing and assembling engineering components
- Installing and removing bearings
- Repairing and fitting engineering components
- Maintaining and overhauling mechanical equipment

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

- Reliable, motivated and willing to learn
- Enjoy hands‑on, practical work
- A good aptitude for mechanical systems
- Valuable literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail
- A current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle is preferred

You will be required to work a 35‑hour week (including TAFE training) and must be willing to work overtime and weekends when required.
