I'm working with a small, established ESD consultancy in Melbourne looking for someone to step into a genuine leadership role.

n

It could suit an existing Associate or a very good Senior Sustainability Consultant who feels ready to run a team, own client relationships and have a much bigger say in how things are done.

n

In a larger consultancy, getting that opportunity can take years.

n

You'll work directly with the owner and be trusted to take ownership of the day-to-day consulting business. There's still technical work involved, but this isn't a role where you'll spend five days a week buried in modelling.

It's a mix of:

- Leading and supporting a small sustainability team
n
- Reviewing work and maintaining technical quality
n
- Preparing proposals and helping decide which work to pursue
n
- Managing existing client relationships and developing current ones
n
- Staying involved technically across projects
n




- Helping run the day-to-day operation of the Melbourne office
n

The project work is predominantly commercial, alongside mixed-use and other building projects, with services spanning ESD advisory, SDA/SMP/BESS, NatHERS, Section J/JV3, energy modelling and broader sustainability advice.

What makes the role different is the amount of freedom. You're not joining underneath three layers of management waiting for somebody to eventually give you a team. You'll be given plenty of room to make decisions, build relationships, improve things and put your own stamp on how the team operates.

The owner isn't looking for someone who just wants to turn up, do the job and collect a salary. He wants someone who genuinely wants to be part of the business, help it grow and be well rewarded when it does.

It's about getting some of the upside of running a business, without having to go and start one yourself.
