Calling Manga Artists!

Do you love manga, anime, character design and visual storytelling?

Art Academica is looking for a practising manga/anime illustrator or artist to inspire children and teens through drawing, character creation and storytelling.

We are not looking for someone to simply supervise activities. We want an artist who can help students understand how characters are built, how expressions work, how proportions change, how movement is shown, and how stories come alive visually .

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will teach small groups of children and teenagers in our Manga classes, helping students develop real drawing and illustration skills while keeping the classes energetic, imaginative and fun.

You’ll work with areas such as:

- manga and anime character design

- facial expressions and emotions

- body proportions

- poses and movement

- clothing and costume design

- visual storytelling

- composition

- line work

- colour

- developing original characters

- creating individual artistic style

We want you to bring your own artistic personality, enthusiasm and knowledge of manga culture into the classroom.

WE WOULD LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU ARE...

A practising manga artist, illustrator, comic artist or visual storyteller with a strong portfolio.

You should be:

- confident drawing manga/anime characters

- strong in illustration and character design

- comfortable demonstrating drawing live

- energetic, warm and engaging with children

- reliable and organised

- confident communicating with students

- able to manage a small classroom

- comfortable following a structured lesson plan or create your own





- genuinely interested in manga and anime culture

- interested in a long-term teaching relationship

YOUR PORTFOLIO IS ESSENTIAL

Please include examples of your manga, anime, comic or character illustration work with your application.

Instagram, website, Behance, ArtStation or another social media portfolio is absolutely fine.

Applications without relevant artwork will not be considered.

EXTRA SPARKLE

Bonus points if manga/anime culture is already part of your world — whether that’s:

cosplay, character-inspired makeup, fashion, conventions, accessories or simply a deep love of the genre.

We love teachers who bring their personality into the studio.

You absolutely do not need to dress up to teach — but if you enjoy it, we will probably love it too.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE?

Teaching experience is wonderful, but it is not essential.

If you are a strong artist with excellent communication skills, the right personality and genuine enthusiasm for working with young people, we can train you in the Art Academica teaching approach.

What matters most is that you can draw, explain, inspire and connect .

REQUIREMENTS

You will need:

- solid manga/anime illustration portfolio

- current ABN

- Working With Children Check

- Public Liability Insurance, or willingness to obtain it

- right to work in Australia

- reliable weekly availability

- ability to start soon

- commitment to regular weekly classes
