Knox Basketball operates one of Australia's premier basketball and community sporting venues, with the café servicing athletes, members, families, spectators, visitors, tournaments, functions and major sporting events such as WNBL & NBL games.

About the Role

Working as part of the café team, you will support the F&B; Manager, Head Chef and wider hospitality team to deliver high-quality fresh food, coffee and customer service across the State Basketball Centre.

You will be expected to confidently move between barista, food preparation, customer service, POS, kitchen support, cleaning and event catering duties depending on operational requirements.

Your day may include:

- Operating commercial coffee equipment and maintaining consistently high barista standards
- Preparing fresh rolls, sandwiches, wraps, toasties and other café food items
- Assisting with food preparation and basic cooking
- Supporting the kitchen and café team during peak trading periods
- Taking customer orders and operating POS and EFTPOS systems
- Providing friendly, professional and efficient customer service
- Preparing and replenishing café displays, fridges and service areas
- Assisting with catering preparation, set-up, service and pack-down for tournaments, functions, major events, alcohol bar service and more
- Restocking supplies and rotating stock using FIFO principles
- Maintaining food preparation areas, café equipment and customer areas to a high standard, dishwashing and general café cleaning




- Completing opening and closing procedures and cleaning checklists
- Receiving, checking and correctly storing deliveries
- Following food safety, hygiene, allergen management and WHS procedures
- Working closely with supervisors and other team members to ensure smooth service

About You

We are looking for people who can demonstrate:

- Previous experience working in a busy café or high-volume hospitality environment
- Confidence working on a commercial coffee machine
- Experience preparing fresh café food such as rolls, gourmet sandwiches, wraps, hot food dishes, toasties and similar products
- Previous kitchen, cooking or food preparation experience highly regarded
- The ability to work efficiently and calmly during busy service periods
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Confidence using POS and EFTPOS systems
- Strong food safety and hygiene awareness
- A positive, reliable and team-focused attitude
- Excellent personal presentation and attention to detail
- The ability to follow procedures, take direction and work as part of a team
- A willingness to undertake a range of café, kitchen, cleaning and event-support duties
- The ability to maintain quality and presentation standards even during major events and peak periods

Availability & Flexibility

This is a genuinely flexible casual position, however availability across peak operating periods is essential to this role.

Successful applicants must be willing and able to work:

- Tournament and competition days
- Functions and major sporting events




- Flexible shifts according to operational requirements

Rosters may vary depending on basketball competitions, tournaments, functions and major events.

Mandatory Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must:

- Hold a current and valid Australian driver's licence
- Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC) or be eligible to obtain one as required
- Be willing to undergo and successfully complete a National Police Check
- Have unrestricted Australian working rights
- Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate (training can be provided)
- First Aid & CPR (training can be provided)
- Must be available to work the required evenings, weekends, school holidays, public holidays and major events

Additional food safety or hospitality qualifications will be viewed favourably.
