About the Organisation

This Defence-focused program supports the ongoing sustainment of critical technology systems. As part of a small technical team, you will be responsible for building, configuring and securing Windows devices for deployment into operational environments.

This is a hands-on role where the majority of the work involves preparing Dell laptops to meet defined technical and security standards. You'll work across Windows builds, device deployment, system hardening and ongoing sustainment activities, helping ensure systems are secure, compliant and ready for operational use.

Job Description

We are seeking a hands-on Windows Build & Deployment Specialist to join a Defence sustainment team. This role is ideal for a Senior IT Support professional or a mid-level Systems Administrator who enjoys building, configuring and securing Windows devices.

The majority of the role involves preparing Dell laptops to specific technical and security standards before deployment into operational environments. You will be responsible for installing and configuring Windows operating systems, applying security hardening requirements, validating configurations, and ensuring all devices meet Defence compliance standards.

This is a practical, BAU-focused position requiring robust Windows administration skills, attention to detail and the ability to work across both IT support and security-related activities.

Duties and Responsibilities





- Build and configure Dell laptops to approved technical specifications.
- Install, configure and maintain Microsoft Windows operating systems.
- Apply security hardening standards and approved configuration baselines.
- Configure and manage Windows security settings, Group Policies and endpoint protection controls.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and operating system issues.
- Validate system builds and ensure compliance with Defence requirements.
- Apply operating system updates, patches and security fixes.
- Support laptop deployments and sustainment activities.
- Conduct testing and quality assurance checks prior to device delivery.
- Create and maintain technical documentation and build procedures.
- Work with engineering, cyber security and customer stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Support continuous improvement of build, deployment and hardening processes.

Education / Certifications

- Relevant qualifications in Information Technology, Systems Administration, Cyber Security or a related discipline are highly regarded.
- Microsoft certifications or security-focused certifications will be advantageous.

Skills and Experience

- Experience building, deploying and supporting Windows laptops and desktops.




- Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11 administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with Active Directory and Group Policy.
- Understanding of endpoint security and system hardening principles.
- Experience following technical standards, procedures and compliance requirements.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Experience within Defence, Government or highly regulated environments will be highly regarded.
- Ability to work independently and operate as a technical all-rounder within a small team.
