Enrolled Nurses and Disability Support Workers - Complex Mental Health

Our client is seeking experienced Enrolled Nurses and Disability Support Workers to support a participant transitioning from hospital back into the community in Caboolture.

Support will initially involve daytime community access and will gradually progress to Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA), followed by 24/7 Supported Independent Living (SIL).

This opportunity is best suited to calm, emotionally intelligent professionals with strong mental health experience who can build genuine rapport while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

Working Hours and Roster:
Successful candidates may be required to work the following shifts:

- 7:00 am-3:00 pm
- 3:00 pm-10:00 pm
- 10:00 pm-7:00 am
- Active night shifts
- Sleepover shifts
- Daytime community-support shifts

The roster will gradually transition to 24/7 support as the participant moves into MTA and SIL.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide person-centred mental health and disability support in accordance with the participant's care plans and documented support strategies.
- Assist with a safe and gradual transition from hospital into the community.
- Support community access, appointments, recreational activities and daily living requirements.
- Establish trust through meaningful conversation, active engagement and a calm, respectful approach.
- Recognise signs of declining mental health and respond appropriately to changes in presentation or behaviour.
- Respond calmly and professionally to distress, heightened emotions, absconding risk and other complex situations.
- Apply effective de-escalation and redirection strategies while maintaining the participant's dignity and autonomy.
- Remain flexible and responsive, recognising that overly structured plans may cause the participant anxiety or distress.




- Support the participant with drives and community activities that assist with emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Administer medication and provide clinical support within your qualifications, training and scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate shift notes, incident reports and other required care documentation.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, clinical professionals, management and other relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to a safe, consistent and positive support environment.

The ideal Enrolled Nurse will:

- Be calm, grounded and emotionally perceptive.
- Communicate clearly and confidently in English.
- Enjoy meaningful and intellectually engaging conversations.
- Be comfortable participating in robust discussions.
- Have a good sense of humour and be comfortable with dark humour.
- Be flexible and responsive rather than overly rigid or authoritarian.
- Understand complex mental health presentations and associated flight or absconding risks.
- Be able to build rapport without becoming dismissive, confrontational or controlling.
- Be comfortable supporting community access, including regular drives.
- Provide consistent support while respecting the participant's autonomy and preferences.

Participant compatibility will be an important part of the selection process. Due to the participant's individual support requirements and expressed preferences, suitably experienced male applicants are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Bring:

- Demonstrated experience supporting people with significant or complex mental health needs.
- Experience in disability, psychosocial support, hospital-to-community transitions, MTA or SIL environments.
- Strong rapport-building,



communication and de-escalation skills.
- The ability to recognise subtle changes in a participant's mental health presentation.
- A calm and professional approach to risk, distress and unpredictable situations.
- Flexibility to work across a rotating casual roster, including nights and sleepovers.
- Clear spoken and written English.
- Confidence completing accurate care documentation and incident reports.
- A person-centred approach that promotes dignity, choice, control and independence.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary support team.

Registration and Compliance Requirements

- Current AHPRA registration as an Enrolled Nurse, with no restrictions.
- Relevant nursing qualifications.
- Ability to provide nursing support within your approved scope of practice.

Disability Support Workers

- Current Queensland Blue Card.

- Current CPR certification.
- Current driver's licence.
- Current vehicle registration.
- Current motor vehicle insurance meeting the service provider's requirements.
- Access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to satisfy all required pre-employment and compliance checks.
