Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS) is committed to building a Lived Experience workforce that influences systems change and creates opportunities for individuals with serious mental ill-health and their families/careers to live a meaningful life.

Peacock centre opened in 2023. The services offered at the Peacock Centre include the Integration Hub, the Safe Haven and Peacock House. Safe havens provide a therapeutic space: a point of interface or transition between non-Clinical and clinical supports, with people being able to transition freely between both depending on their preferences and need.

Safe Havens are designed to provide support to people in situational distress, aged 15 years and over with their families, friends or support networks, operating over extended hours and strongly informed by lived experience.

The Role

The Consumer Peer Worker upholds the Lived Experience values and principles to encourage recovery-focused, person-centred and strengths-based approach to all aspects of work. Use their lived experience, recovery experience, personal experience to support families and friends and to share experiential knowledge to persons attending the Safe Haven.

You will need

- Ability to use lived experience of mental illness to promote recovery and enhanced individual outcomes for clients of mental health services.
- Demonstrated understanding of peer work best practice, the values that support peer work and the impact of mental illnes on people's lives
- Commitment to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple key internal and external stakeholders including consumers, carers, family members and public government and community service providers.

Details of appointment

- Permanent part time, shift worker position, working 48 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can join us.

Salary

$70,033 to $75,114 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Union Wages Agreement 2025

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

- Personal experience of mental illness and use of clinical mental health services.

- Current Driver’s Licence.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to work towards the same.

- Evidence of knowledge, skill and experience in the recovery approach.
