Electorate Officer - Media and Communications (EOB) Sarah Witty MP
The office of Sarah Witty MP is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Electorate Officer - Media and Communications, based in the electorate office in Fitzroy, Victoria.
This role supports the Parliamentarian's media, communications and community engagement activities, with responsibility for developing and delivering strategic communications across multiple channels.
Position Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, organised and politically aware communications professional to join a agile federal electorate office. The Electorate Officer - Media and Communications will support the Parliamentarian by developing and implementing communications strategies that engage constituents, stakeholders and the broader community.
The successful applicant will be responsible for managing media enquiries, creating engaging digital and social media content, maintaining the Parliamentarian's online presence and website, and providing strategic communications advice to support community engagement activities. The role will work closely with electorate staff, community organisations and external stakeholders to ensure clear, timely and effective communication of the Parliamentarian's work and priorities.
The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong digital content creation capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Occasional travel to Canberra during parliamentary sitting weeks may be required and irregular work hours to support events and media engagements.
The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Develop and implement the Parliamentarian's media and communications strategy across traditional and digital platforms.
Create high-quality content including media releases, speeches, newsletters, website content, social media posts, videos and stakeholder communications.
Manage the Parliamentarian's social media channels, website and digital presence, ensuring content is timely, engaging and accurate.
Respond to media enquiries and coordinate media opportunities, interviews and community engagement activities.
Provide strategic communications advice on local issues, campaigns, announcements and constituent engagement.
Monitor media coverage, community sentiment and digital analytics, preparing reports and briefing materials as required.
Assist with the promotion and delivery of electorate events, stakeholder meetings and community initiatives.
Travel within the electorate and to Canberra as required, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks, and undertake other duties as directed.
The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
Demonstrated experience in media, communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or digital content creation.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging digital content, including video and graphic design.
Experience maintaining websites and using content management systems.
Ability to develop and implement strategic communications plans and campaigns.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people.
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
Sound understanding of current affairs, government and parliamentary processes.
Ability to work collaboratively within a small team while also working independently and proactively.
Demonstrated professional integrity, discretion and sound judgement.
Experience in a parliamentary, political, government, community or not-for-profit environment would be highly regarded.
Employment conditions:
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:
A commencing salary between $79,525 and $92,846 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
An additional optional allowance of up to $21,608 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
