Retail / Trade – Hardware Store Merchandiser (Experienced) - Bundaberg Region

CQ Building Supplies are seeking an experienced retail/ trade- hardware Merchandiser to join our growing team. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring stores and warehouses across the CQ Group presents a well-stocked, well-organised, and visually appealing sales floor at all times. This role will play a key part in driving sales through effective marketing campaigns, product presentation, accurate stock control, and strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Our head office is based in North Lakes, although the successful applicant will be required to travel extensively to Bundaberg and Hervey Bay where our retail stores are based. Subsequently, the successful applicant must hold a driver licence and be comfortable driving from Brisbane to Hervey Bay and Bundaberg on a regular basis, often staying overnight or for multiple nights throughout a week. We would also be open to supporting a move to the Hervey Bay or Bundaberg area for the right applicant.

Key responsibilities

Stock Presentation – in line with company planograms and category plans (which the successful applicant will be responsible for creating), ensuring shelves, displays, and bays are consistently full, faced, and correctly signed and priced.

Inventory Management – stock levels across all departments, identifying gaps, slow-moving lines, and over/understocked areas, and placing replenishment orders as required.

Supplier Liaison – with suppliers and sales representatives to coordinate deliveries, negotiate promotional support, and stay current on new product ranges.

Promotions & Seasonal Ranging – promotional and seasonal displays (e.g. end-caps, feature bays, seasonal ranging) to maximise sales opportunities and support marketing campaigns.

Stocktake & Stock Accuracy – regular stocktakes and cycle counts, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

Stock Rotation – floor stock rotation to minimise damaged,



expired, or obsolete stock, and manage timely returns or write-offs in line with company procedure.

Customer Service – assistance to customers and trade clients on the shop floor regarding product location, availability, and general product knowledge.

WHS Compliance – safe manual handling, use of ladders/equipment, and general housekeeping standards, reporting hazards in line with CQ Building Supplies WHS procedures.

Team Collaboration – closely with the Store Manager and wider team to identify opportunities to improve store layout, sales performance, and customer experience.

Management of the Retail/trade store – Successful applicant will be responsible for managing the operations of the store, in conjunction with the branch manager from Thursday – Sunday.

About you

Minimum 2 years' experience in a merchandising, retail stock, or hardware trade counter role (essential).

Demonstrated experience in a merchandising role within a hardware, building supplies, or similar retail/trade workplace.

Must be available to work Saturdays and Sundays as part of roster.

Sound working knowledge of building, hardware and landscaping products (timber, fixings, tools, and related trade supplies) is highly regarded.

Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

High attention to detail with a strong visual and spatial sense for product presentation.

Confident communicator, comfortable liaising with suppliers, management, sales and warehouse staff and customers.

Physically capable of manual handling tasks, including lifting, bending, and working at height using ladders/step platforms.

Computer literacy for stock ordering and inventory systems.

A positive, proactive attitude and a strong sense of ownership over the presentation of the store.

Certificate II/III in Retail, Warehousing, or a related field (desirable, not essential).

Must hold a driver licence

Must be available to travel to and to stay in the Bundaberg area on a regular basis (where our retail store is based).
