About the School

The Avenue School is an independent specialist school in Ferntree Gully. We provide an alternative education setting for young people who have experienced anxiety disorders and found school attendance challenging. In 2027, the School will deliver the Victorian Curriculum for students in Years 7-10, the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) and the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) through small classes, strong relationships and high levels of individual support.

About the Roles

Our teachers plan and deliver engaging, differentiated learning across all year levels and programs, including the Victorian Curriculum for Years 7-10, the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) and the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM). These roles would suit flexible generalist teachers who can teach across curriculum areas and respond to diverse student needs. Using trauma-informed practice, you will create a predictable, encouraging and non-judgmental learning environment where students feel safe, experience success and rebuild their connection with education.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated learning across all year levels and programs, including the Years 7-10 Victorian Curriculum, VPC and VCE VM, responding to each student’s learning needs.

- Use trauma-informed and evidence-informed practices to support student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.





- Maintain a learning environment that promotes physical and psychological safety, belonging and respectful relationships.

- Actively involve students in setting goals, reflecting on progress and taking ownership of their learning.

- Assess learning, maintain accurate records and communicate progress clearly.

- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and relevant professionals to provide coordinated student support.

- Contribute positively to the School’s philosophy, values, programs and wider community.

About You

- Qualified & Registered: A recognised secondary teaching qualification and current VIT registration (with full Australian working rights).

- Adaptable Educator: Confident teaching across multiple year levels, learning areas and pathways (VPC/VCE VM experience is highly regarded).

- Trauma-Informed Focus: Deep understanding of how anxiety, trauma and interrupted schooling impact student engagement and learning.

- Specialist Mindset: Experience in alternative, flexible, or specialist education settings is highly advantageous, alongside a demonstrated ability to implement cutting-edge learning structures and use digital technologies effectively in teaching practice.

- Growth-Oriented: You highly value collaboration, reflective practice, and a commitment to ongoing professional learning.

- Relational Approach: Exceptional interpersonal skills, patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to maintain clear, consistent expectations.
