About the role

MiChoice Disability Supports is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability & Mental Health Support Person to join our team in Toowoomba, QLD. This is a casual position that offers flexibility whilst making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with disability and mental health support needs. In this role, you will provide direct person-centred support to clients, helping them achieve their goals, maintain their independence and participate actively in their communities.

This position is fundamental to our mission of delivering high-quality, individualised support services that respect the rights and dignity of every person we work with.

Key responsibilities

- Provide direct personal care and support to individuals with disabilities and mental health needs, assisting with daily living activities and tasks

- Support clients to develop and maintain social connections, participate in community activities and pursue personal goals and interests

- Assist clients with personal hygiene, grooming, meal preparation and household management tasks as required

- Promote and encourage client independence, autonomy and decision-making in all interactions

- Maintain detailed and accurate records of support provided and client progress using required documentation systems

- Communicate effectively with clients, their families, carers and the wider support team to ensure coordinated and consistent care

- Work collaboratively with supervisors and other team members to address client needs and resolve any concerns that may arise

- Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, legislation and duty of care requirements including the Disability Standards for Accessible Customer Service





- Respond compassionately to clients experiencing mental health challenges or distress, utilising appropriate de-escalation and support techniques

- Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of all clients at all times

What we're looking for

- A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and mental health support needs

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with clients and colleagues
- A patient, empathetic and non-judgmental approach to supporting diverse individuals

- Physical capability to assist clients with personal care tasks and mobility support as appropriate

- Ability to work independently and use own initiative whilst maintaining accountability to supervisors

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure

- Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work various shifts as required in a casual role

- Current Working with Children clearance or willingness to obtain this as part of the recruitment process
- A current driver's licence and access to reliable transport (desirable)

- Relevant qualifications such as Disability Support Work, Mental Health or First Aid (preferred but not essential; training can be provided)

- An understanding of and commitment to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) principles
