Company Description The Parliament of Current South Wales is the main legislative body for the state, based at Parliament House on Macquarie Street in Sydney. It comprises the Legislative Assembly (lower house) and the Legislative Council (upper house), with members elected by the people of NSW approximately every four years. As a public institution, the Parliament is committed to transparency, accountability, and serving diverse communities across the state.

Role Description The Electorate Officer for Dr Hugh McDermott MP provides administrative, communications, and constituent support within the electorate office. Day-to-day duties typically include responding to enquiries from community members, drafting correspondence, and maintaining accurate records and databases. The role supports the MP with research on local issues, preparation of briefing materials, and assistance with community events and meetings.

The Electorate

Officer also helps manage office operations, including scheduling, document management, and coordination with Parliament and government agencies. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Sydney, NSW.





Qualifications

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting letters, emails, and briefing notes clearly and professionally.
- Administrative and organizational skills, such as managing calendars, records, databases, and office workflows efficiently.
- Stakeholder and community engagement capabilities, including handling public enquiries, building rapport, and maintaining a respectful, non-partisan approach.
- Research and analytical abilities to gather information, interpret policy and legislation, and prepare concise summaries on local and parliamentary issues.
- Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email, CRM tools) and ability to learn parliamentary systems quickly.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality when dealing with sensitive constituent and political information.
- Demonstrated interest in public service, government, or community advocacy; prior experience in an electorate office, public sector, or similar environment is an advantage.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in politics, public policy, law, communications, or a related discipline are desirable but not mandatory.
