We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Youth Sexual Violence Counsellor to join our Specialist Sexual Violence Services team in Toowoomba on a contract basis until June 30th, 2027. In this full-time role, you will provide trauma informed, developmentally sensitive counselling, case management and advocacy supports to children and young people under 18 years who have been affected by youth sexual violence. The Youth Sexual Violence Counsellor plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of exceptional client services, while also fostering a positive and supportive work environment and contributing to our broader advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
Provide trauma informed counselling and support to children and young people under 18 years who have experienced child sexual violence and abuse including those under 10 years of age exhibiting problematic sexual behaviours.
Deliver individual and group counselling for adults, children, and young people as required.
Conduct risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis intervention as needed.
Collaborate with other service providers to facilitate integrated service delivery.
Maintain compliance with professional standards, including the QLD Government Interagency Guidelines for Responding to Adult Victims of Sexual Assault.
Provide outreach and school-based services as required.
Maintain case notes, reports, and data collection in line with DVAC procedures.
Engage in reflective practice and professional supervision.
Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive work workplace.
Uphold DVAC’s commitment to social justice.
Participate in a shared after-hours on call roster
About You
Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications in the human services field
Experience in counselling or trauma-informed support, including risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis intervention.
Understanding of gender-based violence and intersectional feminist practice.
Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities.
IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and client management systems.
Current driver’s license, Blue Card & National Police Check Commitment to the National Standards for Child Safe Organisation.
