The Role
Based in Parramatta, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in one of Australia's most trusted news organisations.
ABC News is seeking a Planning Producer - Chief of Staff to coordinate and drive coverage planning across New South Wales. Working closely with newsroom leaders, reporters, producers and digital teams, you will commission compelling content, oversee daily story planning, coordinate major event coverage, organise story coverage and support breaking news operations across all ABC News platforms.
This role is ideal for a highly organised editorial professional with strong news judgement, a passion for storytelling and a deep understanding of the NSW news landscape.
The Job
Coordinate and commission news coverage across NSW for ABC News programs and platforms.
Develop coverage plans for major events, breaking news and long-term editorial priorities.
Lead the story pitch process and work closely with newsgathering, digital and regional teams.
Monitor audience insights and analytics to identify opportunities for impactful storytelling.
Manage newsroom resources and logistics to support coverage requirements.
Build robust relationships across ABC content teams to maximise collaboration and content sharing.
Ensure all content and coverage plans align with ABC Editorial Policies, News strategy and WHS requirements.

About You




You're a highly experienced newsroom professional with strong editorial judgement and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-platform news environment.
You'll have:
Demonstrated experience planning, commissioning and delivering high-quality news content, including major events and breaking news coverage.
A strong understanding of NSW politics, current affairs and the issues shaping communities across the state.
Exceptional organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
