Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) is seeking a motivated and hands-on Grounds Maintenance Officer to join our Maintenance team based at Morisset Hospital. Bring your practical skills, initiative and team spirit to a role where the work you do helps create safe and welcoming healthcare environments for our community.
In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated team of skilled tradespeople, supporting the maintenance of Morisset Hospital and a number of key Community Mental Health facilities across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie area.
About The Role
As a Grounds Maintenance Officer, you will play an important role in ensuring our hospital and community facilities are safe, functional and well presented.
Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Include
Mowing, whipper snipping, weeding and general lawn and garden maintenance.
Maintaining gardens, grounds and external areas to a high standard.
Supporting the Engineering Department with general maintenance activities.
Assisting other trades as required.
Transporting furniture, equipment and other items between hospital and community sites.
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) and statutory maintenance activities.
Helping maintain buildings, plant and equipment to support a safe and efficient working environment.
Identifying and reporting hazards, risks and maintenance issues.
Working collaboratively with the Maintenance team and Mental Health Engineer to ensure facilities operate effectively and safely.
This is a diverse role where no two days are necessarily the same. You will have the opportunity to work across different environments and contribute directly to the quality and safety of healthcare facilities within the community.

Experience in grounds and garden maintenance is highly valued, with ongoing support and training available to develop your skills.
A current driver licence is essential for this position.

You will be supported through a comprehensive orientation process, including specific Mental Health site inductions to ensure you are confident working within our facilities.
HNELHD also provides access to ongoing training and development opportunities aligned with your role and responsibilities.
You will work closely with experienced trades staff and line management, providing you with the support you need to succeed.

What You'll Be Doing
Maintain, repair and modify hospital buildings, plant, equipment, grounds and gardens to ensure minimal disruption to the facility.
