Its menu showcases fresh cafe dishes, house-made accompaniments and dietary-conscious options in an open-kitchen setting.
As a Cook at Prayosham Pty Ltd, you will be responsible for preparing, cooking and presenting Folk Byron Bay's vegetarian and plant-based menu while maintaining quality, food safety and efficient kitchen operations. This position requires robust attention to detail, sound food preparation skills and the ability to work consistently in a busy cafe kitchen.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Examine fresh produce, grains, dairy alternatives and other ingredients to ensure quality and suitability before use, with particular attention to the cafe's organic, local and ethical sourcing approach.
- Regulate and monitor the temperatures of ovens, grills, cooktops and other kitchen equipment to achieve consistent cooking results and safe food handling.
- Prepare and cook Folk Byron Bay's vegetarian and plant-based dishes, including breakfast items, grain-based bowls, burritos, salads and other seasonal cafe menu offerings.
- Season and finish dishes during preparation using appropriate herbs, spices, dressings and house-made accompaniments such as sauces, preserves, pesto, dukkah, pickles and kraut.
- Portion, plate and garnish meals to maintain consistent presentation, serving sizes and menu standards during service.
- Store prepared foods,
fresh ingredients and perishable products in appropriate temperature-controlled facilities, using correct labelling and stock-rotation practices.
- Prepare menu items and suitable variations for vegan, gluten-free and other dietary requirements while following established allergen-awareness and cross-contamination procedures.
- Organise daily mise en place, monitor stock levels and assist with ordering and stock rotation so the kitchen is prepared for service and food wastage is minimised.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic and safe kitchen by following food safety, sanitation and workplace health and safety procedures throughout preparation, service and close-down.
- Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house staff to keep service flowing efficiently, communicate menu availability and support consistent food quality during busy cafe periods.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Relevant qualification or 3 years of work experience
- Sound knowledge of vegetarian and plant-based food preparation, including the ability to work with varied dietary requirements.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, allergen awareness and safe kitchen practices.
- Good food preparation, portioning, plating and time-management skills in a commercial cafe environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively and maintain consistent quality during busy service periods.
Salary: The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $80,000 - $85,000 p.a plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
