About the role
The Dentist is a core clinical role within Queensland Family Dental Centres, responsible for delivering comprehensive oral health services across preventive, restorative, surgical, and prosthetic disciplines. The Dentist will diagnose, treat, and educate patients across a broad spectrum of dental conditions while providing leadership to a multidisciplinary dental team. This role requires a high level of clinical competence, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to patient wellbeing and oral health outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Diagnose dental diseases and oral health conditions using a range of clinical methods including radiographs, salivary tests, medical histories, clinical examinations, and photographic records.
- Assist in diagnosing general systemic diseases with oral manifestations, such as diabetes, and liaise appropriately with other healthcare providers.
- Provide preventive oral health care including periodontal treatments, fluoride applications, oral health risk assessments, and evidence-based oral health promotion.
- Educate and empower patients to take responsibility for the care of their mouth, teeth, and overall oral health, supporting them to achieve their individual oral health goals.
- Provide restorative oral care including the placement of implants, complex crown and bridge restorations, and the repair of damaged and decayed teeth.
- Perform routine orthodontic treatments as within scope of practice.
- Restore oral function through the design, fitting, and maintenance of removable and fixed oral prostheses.
- Provide oral surgical treatments including biopsy of oral tissue and appropriate prescription of medications in accordance with legislative and AHPRA requirements.
- Refer patients to dental specialists or other healthcare professionals when treatment falls outside the general scope of practice or when specialist intervention is warranted.
- Lead a dental team which may include Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists, Dental Assistants, and other Dental Specialists, fostering a culture of collaboration, skilled growth, and patient-centred care.
About you
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent qualification recognised in Australia.
- Current and unrestricted registration with the Dental Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Current professional indemnity insurance.
- Valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across diverse patient groups and age ranges.
- Demonstrated leadership capability within a collaborative team environment.
- High level of professional integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability.
- Sound organisational and time management skills in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Commitment to patient safety, infection prevention and control, and continuous quality improvement.
