Technical Advisor Clerk Grade: 7/8 – Technical Advisor Employment Type: Ongoing, Full-time Hybrid vs In-office requirements – Hybrid Working – 3 days in office at either 4PSQ, Wollongong, Mann St Gosford or Maitland This role sits within the Duties & Grants Division in the Duties & Grants Technical Assurance Team

About the team The Duties and Grants unit is responsible for the administration of Grants and state tax legislation. We undertake duty assessments, enquiries, revenue collection and provide frontline services to the public and legal professionals alike. The Duties & Grants Technical Assurance team are responsible for providing support and assistance with legislation interpretation to internal stakeholders by way of technical support sessions and answering phone and email enquiries regarding complex duty applications. The team are also responsible for audit/QA checking of complex duty assessments of which the results dictate what training and further support will be provided to frontline assessors. The team are then responsible for creating and delivering that training to increase assessor knowledge and ensure accuracy in duty assessments is achieved. The team acts as a liaison between Revenue NSW Technical Advisory Branch and Duties & Grants assessors. Your day-to-day Conduct audit/QA checks to ensure compliance with State Tax Legislation and ensure the correct duty has been assessed on complex transactions. Provide technical/legislation support via 1:1 sessions, phone, email & duty applications. Assist with identification of training gaps in assessor knowledge and then lead case discussion sessions with a group of assessors. Buddy up and mentor 5/6 technical team members to assist with knowledge sharing and team development. Review and maintain knowledge management articles for Duties & Grants. Be a subject matter expert for various Duties & Grants projects to provide input from a technical/legislation perspective. To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:



Extensive experience in interpreting/analysing legislation and providing advice/support to internal stakeholders in applying this to complex transactions. Ability to develop and deliver training to internal stakeholders on complex sections of the Duties Act 1997. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain and support decisions regarding complex legislation in an easy-to-understand manner. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to research and collaborate to find solutions. Commitment to Customer Service.
