Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

As a PCA - Patient Companion Hospice Care, you will assist in the delivery of quality patient care, providing companionship to patients and support services, alongside and to our clinical staff in our palliative care unit. You will be a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Your companionship may include conversations, reminiscing & storytelling, partaking in patients' hobbies & social activities, assisting with food & drink at the discretion of the Registered Nurse.

The Position

Provide patient companionship as directed by the Registered Nurse and/or Multidisciplinary teamProvide companionship and social support to both patients’ and their familiesAssist with the transfer, transport and care of patients and equipment as directed by the Nursing Staff, in accordance with safe practice guidelinesReport concerns regarding the patient to the shift co-ordinatorAssist in the provision of a supportive and peaceful presence to patients who are dying aloneTransport patients to all areas of the hospital in accordance with recommended safe practices (any mode of transport including bed and wheelchair)Transport items to all areas of the hospital in accordance with recommended safe practices e.g. medications, specimens, blood productsRemove clinical care equipment and supplies from discharge rooms as relevant to area of workStrip, clean and restock discharge beds, trolleys, cubicles,



bathrooms as relevant to area of workCentral ward/department cleaningAssists by answering patient call bells and telephone calls in a timely mannerAssisting patients - non-nursing duties only e.g.: making tea / coffee, meal tray set up etcMaking and tidying patient beds and assist in ensuring patients surroundings are clean and tidy

You will hold well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritise own workload and demonstrate good organisational skills. You will have the ability to work effectively and harmoniously within in a multi-disciplinary team environment with commitment to customer service.

To succeed you will have previous experience in a similar role in an acute hospital or similar setting. Attainment or progression towards Certificate III in Health Support Services or alike (Client/Patient Support Services), will be highly regarded.

Salary: $62,257 to $65,206 (pro rata), plus 12% superannuation A 2 year fixed-term, part-time position, working up to 30 hours per week, hours negotiableSalary packaging up to $18,550 on a range of benefits such as mortgage, rent, meal entertainment,
