About the role
We are seeking a Qualified Pastry Chef to join our team at our Kingston, Tasmania location on a part-time basis, OR casual basis. This is an exciting prospect to utilise your pastry expertise and creativity in a energetic bakery environment. You will play a key role in producing our signature pastries and baked goods, ensuring every item meets our exacting standards. This position offers the chance to work with a passionate team dedicated to the craft of baking whilst maintaining a healthy work-life balance through adaptable part-time hours.
Key responsibilities
1. Prepare and produce a wide variety of pastries, cakes, tarts and baked goods according to established recipes and quality standards
2. Develop and test new pastry recipes and seasonal offerings to keep our menu fresh and exciting
3. Ensure all baked products meet our strict quality control standards for taste, appearance and texture
4. Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic working environment in compliance with food safety regulations
5. Manage ingredient inventory and communicate stock requirements to ensure adequate supplies are available
6. Operate and maintain all pastry equipment safely and effectively
7. Train and support junior team members in pastry techniques and food preparation standards
8. Collaborate with the bakery team to meet daily production targets and customer orders
What we're looking for
1.
Formal qualification or certification in pastry arts or culinary education with a specialisation in pastry work
2. Minimum 3 years' professional experience working as a pastry chef in a commercial bakery or hospitality setting
3. Advanced proficiency in pastry techniques including lamination, choux, pâte à sucre, and other classic methods
4. Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations
5. Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
6. Attention to detail and a commitment to producing consistently high-quality products
7. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team-oriented team environment
8. Flexibility and reliability with a positive attitude towards part-time working arrangements
9. Experience with artisan or specialty baking practices would be highly valued
