About The Team

Gloucester Soldiers Memorial Hospital (GSMH) is a welcoming acute healthcare facility within the Lower Mid North Coast Sector of Hunter New England Local Health District. Proudly serving the Gloucester community, the hospital features 14 acute beds, a busy Emergency Department, a Day Stay Unit and an onsite Operating Theatre.

Supported by visiting surgeons and medical officers, our theatre provides a range of services including general surgery, endoscopy and ophthalmology. As part of our close-knit multidisciplinary team, you'll enjoy a collaborative workplace where every team member makes a meaningful contribution to delivering exceptional patient care.

About The Role

As an Operating Assistant, you will play an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of our perioperative services. Working closely with nursing and medical staff, you'll help prepare patients and operating theatres while maintaining a safe, clean and productive environment for surgical procedures.

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, your responsibilities will include:

Transporting patients safely to and from the operating theatre.Preparing operating theatres in accordance with daily theatre schedules.Assisting with patient preparation and positioning for surgical procedures.Cleaning and maintaining the operating suite in line with infection prevention guidelines.Ensuring compliance with theatre attire requirements and ACORN Standards.Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary perioperative team to support high-quality patient care.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working in a team environment and takes pride in providing high-quality support to patients and clinicians.

You Will Bring

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.The ability to work effectively under the direction of the Nurse Unit Manager.Strong organisational and time management skills,



with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.Previous experience as an Operating Assistant, or a genuine willingness to learn and develop in the role.

What You'll Be Doing

Work as a multi-skilled member of the Operating Theatre Team to provide, non-clinical ancillary support to the theatre staff to complement the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient care. The position is also required to deliver services to the theatre campus & the general hospital as directed by facility management.
